After a quick read of the MusicKit docs, I still have a question...
Is it possible to control sounds from the SndKit with MusicKit classes -
can you assign a Snd to a MKNote for example? I know certain parameters
would be useless in this case, but I'm looking for a way to structure
samples in time (as in a simple drum machine, for example). I get the
impression that without DSP functionality, this might not be a goer.

Have a look at MKSamplerInstrument. It's a subclass of MKInstrument, so
you can connect it's MKNoteReceiver to MKMidi's MKNoteSender in the
standard fashion. There is even a standard "filename" note parameter
that can be specified in Scorefiles which should allow performing a
score with samples. While it's been some time since I looked at
MKSamplerInstrument and it can probably do with some improvements for
the latest SndKit, such as supporting looping, it should do what you
want. Let me know if it doesn't, I can probably justify throwing some
time at it (soon).
