I've been unable to connect to mumble today, and my friends have been
    connecting fine.
It tried to connect to the server, disconnects 30 seconds later, and gives me
    this error message:
"mumble failed to retrieve version information from the central server"
I've searched the forums, but I can't seem to find the cause of this issue.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thansk.

I just tried connecting to mumble through a vpn client, and it worked...I
can't understand why it won't let me connect without it.
I can't really play using a VPN client, so does anyone know what could be the
    cause of this?

The failing version check should just be a warning when the client can't check
for updates, and shouldn't really cause other issues.

Is it possible that you are encountering temporary general connectivity
issues? Since things are working through VPN, it really looks like something's
awry with your provider; check out some servers from the public list, possibly
from other countries, if you have the same problems there.

I've tried a couple of other servers, but it isn't connecting to them either.
I'm not sure if it's temporary or not, because I'm still having the issues,
and I'm not getting a problem with anything other than mumble. Things were
    working fine last weekend, too.
Is there anything I could try to fix this, aside from waiting it out?

Do you get good results from a traceroute (tracert command in Windows) to the
servers you're trying to connect to?

I don't know how to do this. Think you could walk me through it?

On Windows, you open a command prompt (Windows key + R, enter cmd, press
return) and run the command "tracert name.of.your.mumble.server". Copy the
    results in here.

On Linux/BSD/OSX, you open a console/terminal, and run the same thing except
    with "traceroute" instead of "tracert".

Looks like there's a routing problem somewhere in the general direction of
Amazon's cloud service, the only thing you can do is sit it out, or have the
server owner straighten it out with support.

    Oh, lame.
I guess I'll just have to suffer the latency of playing through VPN for a
    while.
I don't suppose you have any idea as to how long this sort of thing takes to
    fix itself, do you?

    a) Run Command Prompt with Administrator privileges.
    b) Type: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
    c) Press Enter. You should receive a success message in Command Prompt.
    d) Reboot your computer.
