Trying to get multisuck working on FreeBSD, everything builds correctly,
but when running the err.log continually logs:
xover(): write error on xover file: No such file or directory
When I run truss against one of the processes I see a loop such as the
one below but can't quite determine why its having an issue writing the
overview data?

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Yes, if you could sketch something out in pseudo-code (I'm fairly weak in perl, myself), that'd be great. > The theory would be that it would keep a checkpoint of the current > message numbers on all groups. I *think* I'm getting what you're saying, but if you have any ideas as to the specfics that you could map out, it would be a big help. Thanks for your interest in this program, by the way. :-) -- Conrad Sabatier <co...@co...> - "In Unix veritas" |

The theory would be that it would keep a checkpoint of the current message numbers on all groups. Something would then come along, ask it to get all the new numbers, compare the 2, and then ask the remote servers for maybe xover info or something to get the message ID. It'd build up a file for each site it'll feed (Maybe just "You have to take it all" in the beginning, then maybe a filter like normal INN or something does later) and when it contacted the remote site, it'd do the MODE STREAM then CHECK <messageid>. Anything it got a 238 on, it'd then go to the remote server and get. Tuc/TTSG Internet Services, Inc. |

That's an interesting idea, I must say. Before undertaking anything like that, though, there are a few critical areas that need to be cleaned up in the existing code, mostly some hard-wired stuff that really should be handled dynamically. I hacked up the original design fairly quickly, and it shows in some places. :-) I've just been so busy lately with other things, it's hard to sit down and get started working on it again. Hi, Has anyone ever considered wanting to use multisuck to feed other NNTP servers than localhost? Thanks, Tuc/TTSG Internet Services, Inc. |
