So it seems the access to the outbound port is blocked. That's bad. Why does someone want to block outbound traffic for port 22? Anyway. A useful general tip with all these problems is the `-v' flag of `ssh'. Another useful information is which version of `ssh' you are using. To my knowledge there are three main streams out there: `ssh1' and `ssh2' by SSH Corp. and `ssh' by OpenSSH which combines version 1 and version 2 functionality. Just a few days ago I checked the current state of affairs and learned that OpenSSH is the best choice because it is most interoperable and has a number of options. In OpenSSH there are some options for ports: -p port Port to connect to on the remote host. This can be specified on a per-host basis in the configuration file. -P Use a non-privileged port for outgoing connections. This can be used if your firewall does not permit connections from privileged ports. Note that this option turns off RhostsAuthentication and RhostsRSAAuthentication for older servers. May be `-P' might help you. After all using privileged ports I could imagine to be a reason for blocking. Hope this helps Stefan -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 Comment: Processed by Mailcrypt 3.4, an Emacs/PGP interface iQCVAgUBP3AKVgnTZgC3zSk5AQHYjAP+O/bn/WKdYH49+i/nJQ2Z+XHABF5J9j5g rz6syQVtKPFTqjWnTrg6S2LS+c1FJ2AweRZnghkDF1nkT9mNY/zuTt5PT+KVn8ts nZuWYTj2bwkWzjkJRuJRgcyBPsluRT9Ow/+Pg3vq5RXJNEy7yqwZMFsMyB330Sc3 EwVY/Jp6NCY= =MLt6 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Hi, it seems I am having problems with our firewall. I.e. ssh to sourceforge does not work. One possibility is using another port (e.g. 80) but I have not yet figured out how to tell ssh to use our HTTP proxy for the connection. Any hints? Ciao, Thomas Dr. Thomas Portele Tho...@ph... My next task will be to check how Peter and Thomas can import the derivations they created at their sites. I checked `lcvs' and noted that it is missing a feature which allows to import source code to a new vendor branch. It's not a big thing to do and so I hope it'll be ready tomorrow. Regarding English: I won't mind if someone uses German here. However, I think each member understands enough English that everyone who can actually should write in English. The mailing list archive may serve as a valuable resource for people being interested in the project later so this should be as accessible as possible. However, this means using English if possible :-( . -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi Thomas and Peter! This mail tries to outline what I think is useful to integrate the Multiplatform versions you are maintaining into the CVS source tree. First of all get `lcvs' from http://www.merten-home.de/FreeSoftware/lcvs/ and put it in a directory in your path. `lcvs' works as a drop-in replacement for the `cvs' command itself and calls `cvs' internally. For CVS sub-commands reading the CVS tree it does nothing special but for sub-commands writing to the CVS tree it adds some useful features. To import your sources into the tree I think it is useful to `lcvs import' them from an up-to-date snapshot of your source tree. For this please. * Check out the trunk by lcvs -d AC...@cv...:/cvsroot/multiplatform checkout -d t= runk source This results in a directory `trunk' containing the source tree in the version it is on the trunk. You may also check out the `smartkom' branch to an own directory by lcvs -d AC...@cv...:/cvsroot/multiplatform checkout -d s= martkom -r smartkom source You need `ssh' connection for that step. Please refer to the `sourceforge.net' documentation. * Consider a branch name. I used `smartkom' as a branch name for the SmartKom specific branch. It's probably wise if Peter uses `comic' as a branch name. I don't know which branch name is wise for Thomas because I don't know of your details. The branch name may contain only lower case letters and - if need be - numbers. * Structure your sources as can be found in the trunk or in the `smartkom' branch. Put all the source directories of all the packages in the well-known structure honoring the changes I made. In any case this includes to rename `lib/pools' to `lib/pca' and moving `opt/lib/something' to `opt/something'. Don't worry. I incorporated all changes necessary by this step into the trunk in some clean check ins so it should be not much of a problem to merge these changes into your branches. Perhaps it is wise to create a directory parallel to `trunk' (and `smartkom' if you have this) named as the branch. I.e. put your source tree under e.g. `comic'. * Double-check that there are no superfluous files. *Please* make sure, that in your source tree there are no files which need not be there. Every file found in your source tree being not in at least the `smartkom' branch is questionable. The general rule is: Everything which can be generated does not belong into the source tree. At best report here which files you have which are not in the `smartkom' branch. You may employ diff -qr smartkom comic Any difference saying that there is a file in `comic' missing in `smartkom' needs special attention. At this point one problem comes to mind. Before I checked in even the `smartkom' branch I changed all source files by adding a copyright notice containing the standard reference to the LGPL. This was a lot of (unpleasant) work. However, it is necessary for the sources to become Free. Your sources should have these copyright notices as well. I think we can think of a way how to merge them into your branches from the `smartkom' branch or the trunk so you should not care too much about this problem now. * Import your sources to your branch. Ahm - I need to think about how to do that. This is a critical operation and it can make the repository quite ugly if done wrong. I'll experiment a bit here and tell you about what I think is useful. If you have any questions or problems until here, feel free to ask on this list. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi! I removed some minor glitches stemming from the changes I made regarding the name for `lib/pca' and from removing SmartKom specific stuff. Now, the Multiplatform system comes up as usual. However, the GUI looks somewhat different - the background color seems to be missing. I'll check that. At the moment the GUI shows the old SmartKom modules. I will remove that (if this is possible) so the trunk of the Multiplatform CVS tree will refer to a version not specific to any particular system. If this is done I'll create a file package containing a checked out CVS tree from the trunk with some additional goodies. This is version 0.1.0, then. BTW: There is `opt/top/INSTALL.sdf' describing the installation procedure. An HTML version of this file should be in the top level of this source bundle, too. If you want to do us a favour try to follow the steps described there and install a new Multiplatform system tree from scratch. Please notify any problems here. BTW: As it seems the connection for web connections to `sourceforge.net' is awfully slow if you are connected to the Internet by DFN. My provider at home uses the Telekom backbone and things work with resonable speed there. The CVS access via SSH seems to operate with reasonable speed in both nets, however. The anonymous access by the `pserver' protocol is a pain - but this is probably due to difficulties in `sourceforge.net' as described on their site. Ahm - I should give this hint so you do not need to find in lcvs -H For this configuration to work you need to set two environment variables: setenv CVS_RSH lcvs setenv LCVS_RSH ssh To the latter you may give options. For instance I'm using setenv LCVS_RSH "ssh1 -x" Gr=FC=DFe Stefan PS: Mail to the list seems to be blocked at the moment. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi developers! I just checked in `mod/gui' which I needed to care about heavily. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi again! CVS is a great tool. However, it misses a few things like a central log file similar to a ChangeLog file and a decent tagging mechanism which bundle a single commit by a unique tag. To overcome these problems long ago I started `lcvs'. You can get it from http://www.merten-home.de/FreeSoftware/lcvs/index.html `lcvs' is a simple frontend to `cvs' enhancing some operations modifying the repository. This means on the other hand you don't need to use `lcvs' if you only want to read the repository. If you are a developer, however, you *need* to use `lcvs' to check in your changes to the project. I'm using `lcvs' for quite some time now and the standard operations work perfect. May be there are some quirks in rarely used functions. If so feel free to contact me immediately. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi! Please check the SourceForge documentation [https://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=3D89988] for anonymous access using `pserver' protocol). I think we should have these CVS module names for all the packages so it is easier to grab a single module. On the other hand module names are a prerequisite for using `lcvs'. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi! Before starting to import our old stuff I made up my mind to drop that unloved `lib' in `opt/lib/something'. I.e. all `opt' packages will be located directly under `opt' in the SourceForge CVS tree. Of course this needs a bit care to name each package other than `bin', `lib' or `demo' but that should not be difficult. Though I wanted to import everything just as it was in SmartKom in the final release I considered this change in the directory structure important enough to do it before checking anything in. After all moving things around in CVS is a bit difficult. This change needs only a small change in the MakeIncludes - given that `Makefile's do it right. I think I'll make that change on the trunk. AFAIK at the moment there are several instantiations of Multiplatform out there. At least there is the (final) version from SmartKom, the version used in Comic and one or more versions at Philips. For a start I considered it most useful to each such branch gets an own branch in the repository. I.e. the final version for SmartKom is imported to smartkom the current Comic version to comic and Philips may do so similarly. I consider it one of the first goals of this project to combine all these branches on the trunk to a unified version which is maintained collectively thereafter. One important part of this goal is to remove all hints to SmartKom, Comic or may be the Philips projects. In particular this means that some files need to be renamed and APIs need to be changed (substitute `sk' in the function names). Instead everything should refer to Multiplatform instead using `mp' as an abbreviation. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi Multiplatform developers! This is just a welcome message: Welcome! Ahm - though this project is rooted in German research projects I think we should speak English here so people from all over the world can join more easily.
