[MP-d] Status of multiplatform

Dear all,

In the IMIX project (www.nwo.nl/imix), which is in its start-up phase,
we consider using the multiplatform system for integration purposes.
However, our experience with multiplatform so far have led to some
doubts with respect to adopting it for our project. For example, it
appears that the system can only be built with the 2.x versions of gcc.
For some participants this will be problematic, since their own software
may require gcc 3.x in the near future.

In general, the fact that multiplatform has not been updated to
succesfully work with new versions of gcc, and the lack of any visible
activity on the sourceforge site make us wonder whether there still is
any support for the system at all.

I would appreciate if someone on this list could comment on these
issues, so that we can make a well-thought-out decision in favour or
against the use of multiplatform.
