#30 retry: Trouble importing certain Apprentice decks

EDIT1: Added corrected zip file now complete with two
non-working decks (left out in previous bug report)
EDIT2: Just noticed Apprentice has an option to save
decks as text; this must be how the first file was
generated. At least for now, Apprentice users can be
advised to re-save their nonworking decks as text files
through Apprentice (though it is click-intensive).
Considering file size is hardly improved, I wonder,
what's the point of the other format?

Original report:
See
http://mtgplay.2.forumer.com/index.php?act=ST&f=12&t=173
for continuing dialogue on this topic.

At least a few people including myself have run into
problems with importing some Apprentice decks.

I have had mixed success importing .dec files created
by a version of Apprentice downloaded from
magic-league.com
<http://www.magic-league.com/Guides/ApprDownload.php>.
Example deck files and index with descriptions included.

    kodrin, next time:
simply delete the file, upload a new file and place the
comment. there was no need to make a new submission. but
    thanx for the info.
i'm no codemonkey, so i'll leave this one to someone else ^^

    makkert:
thanks. would've if I could've... but since I made that
other one before creating my spiffy new SourceForge account,
I didn't have access to do that. Maybe project admins can
delete/modify everything, but 'nobody' created it, so I
    didn't have access.

    Guess so.
    Apprentice i have installed.
it opens the new Apprentice format.
and no, this isn't an mtgo deck.

Well, the obvious answer is, "We don't support it". We
programmed support for Apprentice's text .dec format and
    MTGO binary .dec format.

Sounds good. There's really no need to support them since
people can just save as a text format rather than binary.
But since there are presumably a lot of people we'd like to
switch from Apprentice to MtGPlay, they'd probably like to
know what they need to do. Perhaps the help file can include
notes on other programs' deck format compatibility; I'll
mention on Makkert's thread in the forum.

Should I make a new bug report to change the error message,
or can somebody (please) just do it? (Changing "Invalid XML
file" -> "Unsupported deck format" or something to that
effect is what I suggest. Guess it needs to be translated a
few ways, too ;) Oh well. Babelfish could probably handle
    this one...)

I will probably post as a new bug if nobody responds within
a few days. yeah, kinda whiny, but any little
unprofessionalism or annoyance in MtGPlay might push people
    away from using it.

you mean to say any immaturity with the user, for failing to
grasp that in real life, not everything goes right first time.

anyway, i believe torgo will work on implementing this, altough
he said clearly it may take some time.
personally i hope he soon takes a little break. he deserves
this, as anyone that sees the new version of mtgplay will
understand. (heck, we all deserve it, just probably will never
follow up on it ;) )

    but of course...
some users are losers and simply can't stand the sight of
those insignificant "problems". or so's the claim.
programmers have to pretend there's some reason to be doing
everything perfectly, right? Otherwise programs would turn
into unruly messes which nobody but their authors would be
able to use (or is that yet another layer of
    rationalization?...)
Ah, people like me are too perfectionist to be perfect. Too
busy looking for miniscule details to be quite conidered
lazy. Too full of hot air to shut up when it's well past
time to do so. Too...oh. oops.

I do wonder about Torgo's sanity now and then. I'd think he
promises too much, except that so far he's been delivering
it all. Torgo, if you're listening, do take a break, man!
things won't fall apart, too much, if you quit for a few
weeks. (wait, what am I saying?!)
