#1 "Big byte" error

When rebuilding templates using the MTAmazon
example code included in the doc, I receive the following
error:

I have verified a working install of XML::Simple as well as
the other requirements. I have double-checked the
install paths for MTAmazon. Thus, having limited perl
experience, I am puzzled.
