It would be nice to be able to rate silence from AWFUL
(0%) to SUPERB (100%).

If silence is rated 36% by the people being logged in,
mserv should be silent 36% of the time.

Silence would best be served in big lumps at a time. A
simple method for doing this is to play music until there is
a backlog of one hour of silence and then be silent for one
    hour.

I feel I should maybe explain this one a bit :-).

AFAIU, mserv is made for a group of people sharing the same
music player. It tries to fairly cater to everyone's taste.
It works very well for this, as long as everybody in the
room wants to listen to music at all.

All people may not be interested in listening to music
however. These people are currently not taken care of by
mserv. This change would rectify that.

as a simple workaround you might try to make a few silent
mp3 files, or simply take a piece by john cage :)
    and rate this.
like this people can rate the 5min silence or the one hour
    silence piece etc..

In fact you're right having music on all the time gets
    annoying...

Just add a few "silent" mp3's and rate those. Why fix it in the
    software?
