Hi James ! Hope I didn't traumatize you with my previous message. As you know, I'm looking for RSVP-TE stacks for Linux. I've found: - http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~yhwang/ftp/qos/rsvp/, which is for linux 2.0.x - http://www.kom.e-technik.tu-darmstadt.de/rsvp/, which is at least known to work on 2.2.x but don't seem to support RSVP-TE either. None of these 2 appears to have an active mailing list where I can learn more about them. You said that you've heard of somebody who was hacking a RSVP-TE extension to some already existing stack. Do you have any pointer ? Would you know anything about a CR-LDP (Nortel?) implementation somewhere that we can incorporate to MPLS-Linux ? Thanks a lot! -- François Desloges fd...@vi... |

Hi, We=92re working for implement QoS with MPLS, and apply RVP-TE like = signalling protocol. Anybody knows if there is any actual (less than 2 years old) implementation for apply it with mpls-linux 1.946 or quagga ? Hello, I need to install the last patch of mpls-linux with kernel 2.6, so I need= to know if it is compatible with RSVP-TE Atlantis (Tequila project) demon= or if a different version of RSVP-TE demon is needed. Hi, I'm using James Leu's MPLS-Linux-1.950 to make some tests and I want to add RSVP-TE as an available protocol. I have searched on Google for some RSVP-TE daemons and I just found this site http://dmpls.atlantis.ugent.be/#download Unfortunately, this site is a little old and seems not to be update anymore. By consulting SourceForge's MPLS-Linux-general archives, I saw that Adrian Popa tried few months ago to use the daemon I'm talking about... So Adrian, did you succeed to contact Pim? Did you use finally RSVP-TE in your tests for Linux-MPLS? I have started to modify the code of the daemon to use it with MPLS-Linux-1.950 but it's a little long and difficult (but maybe necessary?) If someone else has already used RSVP-TE for MPLS-Linux-1.950 or has implemented something about that, do not hesitate to reply! ;-) Many thanks to James Leu and SourceForge! Cheers, Philippe P.S : does someone know what is the purpose of the directory 'rsvpte' in 'ldp-portable'? I see there are some files implementing RSVP-TE but I don't think (according to Linux-MPLS-1.950 documents) that it can be used... May I have more information about this? |

I have not had contact with Pim for quite sometime now. So I'm not sure of the fate of his project. The rsvpte directory in ldp-portable is/was my attempt to start a RSVP-TE implementation, it never even got to the point of encoding/decoding packets. There is a group working on a RSVP-TE implementation from the ground up for use with mpls-linux/quagga. At this time they are pretty early on but showing promise. I will let them determine when they are ready for the rest of the list to contribute to thier project. So at this time we're still without a working dynamic label distribution protocol (LDP from ldp-portable still has many bugs to be worked out). Hello Philippe I'm sorry, but I haven't managed to get in touch with Pim. I looked at his implementation of RSVP-TE as a way of distributing labels. Unfortunately I had problems accessing his code, and I didn't want to switch to an old version of mpls-linux to be able to use it. Even now I can't access his web site... Anyway, I congratulate you for trying to update his rsvp code to use mpls-linux. I haven't tried this, but I'm curious... after the rsvp negotiations how does he set up the labels? Does he run a fork(); execlp("mplsadm ..."); command? Or does he use specific mpls-linux methods to set up LSPs? If he uses the first case (which would be inefficient), it wouldn't be impossible to modify the code. If its the latter case, you knee= d to understand how to use mpls-linux first (which is more difficult). I noticed that James said there is another project for rsvp-te in quagga. I= t might take a while until it is usable (I estimate 2-3 years, depending on the size of the team). If you consider that it is easier to modify Pim's rsvp-te to use mpls-linux 1.950, then you should do it, and share the results with the rest of the world. I'm sure many would find it very useful= . Sorry I couldn't help you Adrian Popa PS. You could adopt Pim's project as it seems to be abandoned... It would d= o a lot of people a lot of good. I grabbed the lastest RSVP code from http://www.isi.edu/div7/rsvp/ It compiles on Linux (if you apply the linux-tc patch kit). It still nee= ds TE extensions and a command line interface, but the core is there. > You said that you've heard of somebody who was hacking a RSVP-TE extens= ion to > some already existing stack. Do you have any pointer ? I do remeber hearing about someone on this list thinking about it. I'm n= ot sure if anything ever came of it. Anyone care to comment? > Would you know anything about a CR-LDP (Nortel?) implementation somewhe= re that > we can incorporate to MPLS-Linux ? You are probably refering to the Nortel CR-LDP encode and decode function= s. =20 Their code is at the base of ldp-portable (lib/ldp_nortel.[ch]) ;-) > Thanks a lot! No problem. Correct, it currently doesn't support RSVP-TE. > None of these 2 appears to have an active mailing list where I can learn more > about them. The amount of questions has not exceeded the threshold to create such a list, so far. ;-) I'm happy to answer any questions send to me directly, if time permits. Greetings, Martin |
