This a fairly vague question. Each protocol/MPLS service has it own mechanisms for doing them. Pick one particular one and I can explain it to you. Here is an example to refer to: Layer 2 cross connects across an LDP created LSP that utilizes a RSVP traffic engineered core. In this case you will have: RSVP-TE creates 'tunnels' (think of a big pipe) that control how large amounts of traffic move from P to P router. LDP then runs in direct mode from the PE to the P routers, and indirect mode across the RSVP-TE 'tunnels' (from P to P routers). The resulting LDP LSPs run from PE to PE but are tunneled inside of the 'big pipe' to cross the core. Ontop of the LDP LSPs another indirect LDP session is created to exchange labels for the layer 2 cross connect. (think of these as 'application labels') Which part of this (or another example) do you want me to explain? It sounds like you are looking for data driven LSP setup. There are no standardaized protocols to do this. LDP is a topology driven protocol. It sets up LSPs according to topology info learned from routing protocols. RSVP-TE is configuration driven. The network admin configures exactly which LSPs should be created and what data maps to them. Hi again ! I need to figure out the IPv4 netfilter hooks in the kernel code (or in some other place). I have to measure the actual IP traffic to perform some stuff (DiffServ re-marking, ...). (same problem as Francesco Oppedisano but at the IP level) Any clue ? Hi ! Does mpls-linux supports the automatic establishment of LSPs (i mean not via mplsadm) ? Here is my scenario : When plain IP packets are present at the ingress node level, some kind of signalization will be issued to handle the construction of an LSP that will be used to tunnel those packets. Is this feature supported via LDP, the RSVP-TE daemon (the one from IBCN) ? Thanks ! ___________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? -- Une adresse @yahoo.fr gratuite et en français ! Yahoo! Mail : http://fr.mail.yahoo.com |

If you asking does ldp-portable send, receive and process CR TLVs. The answer is know. The underlying encode decode functions do handle the CR TLVs. Second your syntax is wrong it should be: ip route add DEST/25 via ADDRESS lsp KEY -or- ip route add DEST/25 dev STRING lsp KEY You need some information about the outgoing interface otherwise packets originating at this node will not know which source address to use. > has been failing with > > RTNETLINK answers : Invalid argument > > I have looked it up on the net and changed whatever config parameters I > could think of in the kernel. also changed the Qos paramters to build > statically in the kernel instead of as modules. My kernel is 2.4.18-14. (Redhat 8). I have downloaded mpls-linux, and compiled it following the instructions in the various files that came with it. I have also followed instructions to configure the kernel for MPLS and compiled it. and, also downloaded and compiled iproute2 (iproute2-current...). I am trying to work through the instructions to manually setup an lsp between 2 machines, given in mpls-linux-1.1/utils/README. I am successful at the first two steps, i.e. mplsadm -A -O 0 (Key : 0x00000002) mplsadm -O 0x00000002 -o push:gen:16:set:eth1:ipv4:IPADDRESS_OF_DEST but the next step - ip route add IPADDRESS_OF_DEST/25 lsp 0x00000002 has been failing with RTNETLINK answers : Invalid argument I have looked it up on the net and changed whatever config parameters I could think of in the kernel. also changed the Qos paramters to build statically in the kernel instead of as modules. Nothing works. I have traced the problem to as far as the recvmsg() call in iproute2/lib/libnetlink.c: rtnl_talk(). Do not know if the root of the problem is actually at some stage prior to this call, when we initialize the data structures. Any ideas ? This problem seems to have been reported a lot. and there seems to be no indication of the solution other than to say 'some' kernel config issues. one parameter that is mention is the CONFIG_RTNETLINK, which does not seem to be available in RH8. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance Murthy ANdukuri |

I'm having a problem forming a neighbor using labelspace value of 1. Is there a limitation from ldp-portable? I have tried 3.0.5 as well as 3.1.0. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo http://search.yahoo.com |

After creating any MPLS insegments or outsegments, you should be able to look at the /proc/net/mpls_* files and see the results of you work. Hello, Take a look at the work being done by IBCN (http://dsmpls.atlantis.rug.ac= .be/). Although they are working with RSVP-TE, it will provide you some inforamt= ion about how DiffServ and MPLS can be integrated. Hi everybody ! first of all, thanks for your provious replies ! for ethereal, i have already tried it out... thanks anyway... (got LDP hello messages captured...) Okay, my aim is the deploy a kind of platform that supports paquets forwarding via MPLS. the whole system have to integrate DiffServ for QoS management. My question is, how to inform mplsd/ldp to infer the label from the TOS byte. (A kind of rule to append in the mplsd.conf file ?) Also, what about LSP hop by hop forwarding ? is it supported by the distribution ? Sorry if you find these questions too easy/ cause i'm, somehow, a newbie ... i'm just carrying out some experiences on 1 Linux box for the moment... Thanks in advance ! I am trying to run MPLS on top of IPSec (encapsulate IPSec/IP packets within MPLS). what I am trying to setup is privatesubent1<-->VPNGateway<-->MPLSLER<-->MPLSNetwork<-->MPLSLER<--> VPNGateway<-->privatesubnet2 and , I am trying to install the VPNGateway and MPLSLER on the same box (one box for each of these pairs). I am able to setup JUST a VPN tunnel with Freeswan. I have downloaded and comipled mpls-linux, MPLS enabled MPLS and iproute2. I am just lost at how to have MPLS read from , and write to, the IPSec module. (and make freeswan read from and write to the MPLS module). I imagine it is done with iptables and iproute2, but does anybody have any examples ? any help will be greately appreciated. My network nodes are all RH8 boxes. I have searched the net with all combinations of MPLS and IpSec I could think of,and did not have any luck. So, if there is indeed something outthere, please point me to that. Thanks Murthy Andukuri |

The configuration of 'mplsd' is very similar to the rest of the zebra daemons. If you are not familiar with zebra, head over to http://zebra.org/ to learn more. If you have the source to ldp-portable, take a look at README.zebra-ldp for some more helpful hints. > > Also, how can i monitor the labels used for the > forwarding (and the associated FECs) ? Also, how can i monitor the labels used for the forwarding (and the associated FECs) ? Finally, how can i detect the activity of MPLS.
