I uploaded newer versions of the kernel/quagga/mpls-linux files to sourceforge. These files contain a couple of crucial fixes for MPLS tunnel interfaces. So anyone who has downloaded the kernel or quagga RPMs you will want to get the updated ones, I've changed the release number and added or incremented the letter at the end. Here is a list of the updated files: kernel-2.6.9-1.6_FC2mpls_1_946a.src.rpm kernel-2.6.9-1.6_FC2mpls_1_946a.i686.rpm quagga-0.97.3-1.FC3mpls1_946b.src.rpm quagga-0.97.3-1.FC3mpls1_946b.i386.rpm mpls-linux-1.946a.tar.bz2 In addition I've added new examples to the mpls-linux home page. The examples cover the new 'mpls' commands usage and the new quagga MPLS CLI usage as well. http://mpls-linux.sf.net/ --=20 James R. Leu jl...@mi... |

hi, i am a student from Symbiosis Center for Information Technology, Pune, Maharashtra, India. I am currently working on a project which is the study of the working of MPLS on Linux. It would be great if someone could give me insights as to how to go about installing the rpms and more specefically, which build to download for Red Hat 9 or Fedora Core 2. Thanks. Kiran |

I have just uploaded the binary and source RPMs for mpls-linux 1.946, tarballs will follow soon. Release Name: 1.946 Notes: The binaries RPMs are built on a Fedora Core 2 installation. The source RPMs can be used to build binary RPMs for other RPM systems. Their is no longer a mplsadm2 utility. The CLI for creating LSPs is now implemented in the 'mpls' utility which is part of the iproute2 package. Changes: Kernel changes ----------------- -remove the procfs interface -remove most of the sysfs interface -remove the IOCTL API -finish the netlink API -MPLS tunnel interface is no longer a module -add counter support to the netlink API iproute2 changes ------------------- -add all instructions to the 'mpls' utility -add tunnel support to the 'mpls' utility -add counter support to the 'mpls' utility -add mpls-linux version to -V command iptables changes ------------------ -add mpls-linux version to the -V command quagga ------ -add the new MPLS framework I will be updating the mpls-linux.sf.net web page with updated examples using the 'mpls' utility and the new quagga CLI. For now here are some simple examples: 'mpls' utility usage -------------------- mpls nhlfe add key 0 instructions push gen 16 nexthop wlan0 ipv4 192.168.2.1 (output: "Key: 0x2") mpls ilm add label gen 16 labelspace 0 mpls labelspace add dev eth0 labelspace 0 mpls xc add ilm_label gen 16 ilm_labelspace 0 nhlfe_key 0x2 mpls tunnel add dev mpls0 key 0x2 ip route add 10.0.0.0/24 via 192.168.2.1 spec_nh 0x8847 0x2 quagga MPLS CLI --------------- Ingress LER ----------- iler# conf t iler(config)# ip route 10.0.0.0/24 gen 16 nexthop eth1 192.168.2.1 iler(config)# end iler# show mpls forwarding Insegments: Total 0 Outsegments: Interface Label Next Hop Owner eth1 16 192.168.2.1 STATIC Total 1 Cross Connects: Total 0 iler# show ip route 10.0.0.0/24 Routing entry for 10.0.0.0/24 Known via "static", distance 1, metric 0, best * 192.168.2.1, via eth1 (label 16) iler# LSR --- lsr# conf t lsr(config)# mpls static 0 lsr(config-ls)# label-map gen 16 swap gen 17 nexthop eth1 192.168.3.1 lsr(config-ls)# exit lsr(config)# int eth0 lsr(config-if)# mpls labelspace 0 lsr(config-if)# end lsr# show mpls forwarding Insegments: Lbl Spc Label Owner 0 16 STATIC Total 1 Outsegments: Interface Label Next Hop Owner eth1 17 192.168.3.1 STATIC Total 1 Cross Connects: Lbl Spc In Label Out Label Interface Next Hop Owner 0 16 17 eth1 192.168.3.1 STATIC Total 1 lsr# show interface eth0 Interface eth0 is up, line protocol detection is disabled index 8 metric 1 mtu 1500 <UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> HWaddr: 00:05:5d:a6:e4:33 MPLS labelspace 0 inet 192.168.2.1/24 broadcast 192.168.2.255 inet6 fe80::205:5dff:fea6:e433/64 input packets 2737, bytes 1650440, dropped 0, multicast packets 0 input errors 0, length 0, overrun 0, CRC 0, frame 0, fifo 0, missed 0 output packets 2862, bytes 452923, dropped 0 output errors 0, aborted 0, carrier 0, fifo 0, heartbeat 0, window 0 collisions 0 lsr# Egress LER ---------- eler# conf t eler(config)# int eth0 eler(config-if)# mpls labelspace 0 eler(config-if)# exit eler(config)# mpls static 0 eler(config-ls)# label-map gen 17 pop eler(config-ls)# end eler# show mpls forwarding Insegments: Lbl Spc Label Owner 0 17 STATIC Total 1 Outsegments: Total 0 Cross Connects: Total 0 eler# show int eth0 Interface eth0 is up, line protocol detection is disabled index 8 metric 1 mtu 1500 <UP,BROADCAST,MULTICAST> HWaddr: 00:05:5d:a6:e4:33 MPLS labelspace 0 inet 192.168.3.1/24 broadcast 192.168.3.255 inet6 fe80::205:5dff:fea6:e433/64 input packets 2759, bytes 1657918, dropped 0, multicast packets 0 input errors 0, length 0, overrun 0, CRC 0, frame 0, fifo 0, missed 0 output packets 2881, bytes 454579, dropped 0 output errors 0, aborted 0, carrier 0, fifo 0, heartbeat 0, window 0 collisions 0 eler# Please post questions to the mpl...@li... -- James R. Are you using a Fedora 2 system? If so just install the iproute RPM. Otherwise you are correct in thinking you can use teh contents of the src RPM to build iproute2 on whatever distribution you are running. If you are using redhat 9 or Fedora 1, try doing a: rpmbuild --rebuild <src rpm> system On Wed, Dec 15, 2004 at 09:12:28PM +0800, sanjeev ravindran wrote: > Hi, > I have downloaded mpls-linux-1.938.tar and I have all the patch files with me.. A brief question... Does MPLS code call netfilter code in recent versions? (until 1.172 it didn't if i remember well) Thank u all Francesco Oppedisano |

I find it interesting. Have you published any documents about the implementation or results? What does you experimental network look like? Hi to all, i'm working on a real-time measurement system for diffserv/mpls linux border routers. It supports per lsp/PHB real-time remote/multiclient monitoring in terms of bytes offered to the BR from the access networks using remotely adjustable capture window and sample rate (experimentally a "packet per window" measure is available). Remote clients are able to make on line processing of the captured traffic data by mean of functions (such as predictors or estimators) linked as plugins and so easily developed knowing nothing of the system internals. An asynchronous threshold crossing alarm system is also implemented to, eventually, integrate the system in an automatic traffic engineering decision making framework. Currently it supports rrd-tools visualization and data storage but has a (very simple at this time) proprietary data storage format. It's a research project and it's developed as an experimental software, but proved to be accurate, reliable and light (in term of cpu usage). I'm interested in making it available to the community as a GPL package. (not before the first half of november) Do you think it could be interesting? Best Regards Francesco Oppedisano |

I guess my confusion is with your meaning 'what LSP can allow/support'? Do you mean what the LSP was configured with via RSVP-TE? That is the only means by which a LSP can be 'assigned' bandwidth that I am aware of. The answer is still the same: The short answer is, nothing happens. The long answer is that it depends on the implementation, but most (if not all) implementation do not enforce the RSVP-TE bandwidth requirement, they just used it to help 'fit' LSP during setup and failure cases. > For the incoming traffic if additional bandwidth is > needed, what happens then ? > > I hope I have stated the question clearly now. > > Pathma > > --- "James R. Hello, Thanks for the reply. I meant, "what if the traffic flowing thru an LSP (all of a sudden) increases beyond what the LSP can allow /support ?".How will this increase in traffic be routed in the MPLS network ? For the incoming traffic if additional bandwidth is needed, what happens then ? I hope I have stated the question clearly now. Pathma --- "James R. Hello, I have the following doubt. in an MPLS cloud / network , in an LSP , if the link /path capacity is insufficient, how would it be met? i.e., if the demand increases and the bandwidth in the LSP is insufficient how would this scenario be met ? -switch to another LSP ? -have a backup LSP ? Could anyone comment on this ? Pathma _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Declare Yourself - Register online to vote today! http://vote.yahoo.com |

Hello, Yes, I think it is a good idea to start pushing the gen_stats and l2c netlink code. Both MPLS implementation can benifit from them as well as other projects.
