[mpls-linux-general] connect to the zebra daemon

hi all,
I want to connect to zebra daemon and configure it, so
at first start zebra :
#/usr/sbin/zebra -f /etc/zera.conf -P 1024 -d
then connect to the zebra daemon : 
[root@localhost sbin]# telnet
telnet> open
(to) localhost 1024
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
Vty password is not set.
Connection closed by foreign host.
I don't figure out what is wrong.
Can you help me please?
