[mpls-linux-general] basic questions about MPLS.

Hi,
  I would apprecitate if someone could help me why MPLS is being used?I am 
lost as to where i could find descent enough information about this.
And if someone could explain me what major advantages MPLS has (in
comparison with techniques used in IP ,for e.g in the area of traffic
engineering), i would appreciate it a lot.
The questions i asked may sound dumb , but i am new to MPLS and would
appreciate any kind of help .
