Dear Kevin: Just read your FAQ about mplayerplug-in and Debian. Here is what you said: Simply adding -I/usr/include/mozilla to CFLAGS fixes the problem. Presumably some simple change of the configure script will also fix this. Please see my letter and data below. If this is the same issue, may I ask for specific instructions for "make". I am just an ordinary user and am doing my best. Please translate your instructions into a precise command with make. And I assume that make is as user. Thank you so much. Benjamin BEGIN I installed mozilla-dev (1.7.8-1) from Debian's repository. I kept looking for mozilla-devel instead of mozilla-dev. It's "dev", not "devel" for Mozilla. This time configure went perfectly. But make ran into an error. Please see output below. 1) Configure sher@localhost:~/DOWNLOADS/mplayerplug-in$ ./configure --with-gecko-sdk=/home/sher/DOWNLOADS/gecko-sdk --enable-x checking for g++... g++ checking for C++ compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C++ compiler works... yes ........................................ configure: creating ./config.status config.status: creating Makefile config.status: creating po/Makefile config.status: creating config.h config.status: config.h is unchanged sher@localhost:~/DOWNLOADS/mplayerplug-in$ 2) Make sher@localhost:~/DOWNLOADS/mplayerplug-in$ make g++ -c -Wall -g -O2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -g -O2 -DXP_UNIX -DMOZ_X11 -I/home/sher/DOWNLOADS/gecko-sdk -I/home/sher/DOWNLOADS/gecko-sdk/xpcom/include -I/home/sher/DOWNLOADS/gecko-sdk/nspr/include -I/home/sher/DOWNLOADS/gecko-sdk/string/include -I/home/sher/DOWNLOADS/gecko-sdk/plugin/include -I/home/sher/DOWNLOADS/gecko-sdk/java/include -DGECKOSDK_ENABLED -Iinclude -fPIC -DXPCOM_GLUE -DMOZILLA_STRICT_API -DX_ENABLED Source/plugin-ui.cpp Source/plugin-ui.cpp:6:21: X11/xpm.h: No such file or directory Source/plugin-ui.cpp:45:2: #error libXpm has not been found. I am sorry if I asked the question before. It must have been quite some time ago. Anyway, just love your plugin. Works great. I noticed only one issue: I decided to set the cache-percent to 100, but mplayerplug-in starts playing The War of the Worlds trailer at 4%. Tried it several times. Always at 4% instead of downloading it completely. Please look at my settings below. I changed the cache size to 100000 (that's one hundred thousand), but mplayerplug-in will NOT obey. It insists on launching the video at 4 %. The video (large size) is playing well but only in a jerky sort of way. By the way, I am still having configuration problems with Mplayer. It's still not working. When I try to launch it, it just spins on my KDE taskbar. Does this have anything to do with it? I installed the Mplayer files in the standard way in Debian by adding the sources to apt/sources.list. Dear Kevin: I am sorry to trouble you but my plugin is still having problems: 1) there is no menu at all at the bottom of the screen. I recall that there should be one. There always was one. 2) The video is fine, but the audio is strange: the background music plays fine, but the VOICES are hoarse, scrappy and barely audible. I tested this with several QT trailers. Same situation in all of them. Here is my conf file: sher@localhost:~$ cat .mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf debug=1 #logfile=$HOME/mpp.log #vo=xv #ao=arts #download=1 #dload-dir=$HOME/tmp #keep-download=0 #noembed=0 cachesize=65535 cache-percent=25 #use-mimetypes=0 #enable-real=0 enable-wm=1 enable-qt=1 enable-mpeg=1 #enable-ogg=1 #enable-smil=1 qt-speed=med #rtsp-use-tcp=0 #nomediacache=0 #framedrop=0 #autosync=0 #mc=1 #black-background=0 #user-agent=NSPlayer sher@localhost:~$ Thank you. Wi= th=20 all the optional dev packages you have installed. I would guess that=20 =2E/configure=20 Should build you a proper setup. You should have the development packages f= or=20 the following packages mozilla, libgtk2, libglibc, libXpm After configure runs you should look at config.h and look near the bottom o= f=20 the file and see if it has this line /* Define to 1 if you have GTK2 */ #define GTK2_ENABLED 1 If you don't have this, DO NOT change it. It will only be right if ./config= ure=20 sets it.=20 2. Sounds like an mplayer issue to me. I don't do anything to the audio. Kevin |

Hi Kevin and Michael I haven't been able to test the new version yet (still running an earlier cvs version), however I've been preparing a mail considering your issue about: > Though visual M$-ASF for mediaplayer 10 still sucks > Try the link on the upper right corner: > http://www.dr.dk/nyheder/?top=true It is related to MPlayer or ffmpeg I guess, which cannot find out to play back multibitrate mms-streams with a chosen quality. In that case by changing mms://<link> to http://<link> fixes this. Actually the same problem about the multibitrate mms-streams exist for playback of video - again I think it is mplayer or ffmpeg that has a problem! Maybe Kevin could make a switch to change mms-urls into http-urls? (because I really haven't had any(!) success getting attention on mplayers user-mailinglist, so a switch may be easier unless someone could pin point the possible bug in mplayer or ffmpeg?) Kevin, if you remember the problems about playing back radio from http://www.dr.dk The solution were both the bug fixes you made, but also to put a 'user-agent=NSPlayer' line into mplayerplug-in.conf. However on http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/config.php the user-agent option is missing. Are you still considering adding this option officially to the configuration home page of mplayerplug-in since it was the only way to play back the multibitrate-streams? Now, try again renaming the mms-url to a http-url and see if the quality differs. In should be 64 kbit/s in both cases, however I experienced a lower quality of 20 kbit/s with the url having a starting "mms". Why this strange behaviour, well I dont know. Its not your fault, but if you see that phenomenon as well, it could be fixed by a switch perhaps? My mplayer is not playing recently since I had some problems with the debian marillat version after an update. I get a "mplayer: relocation error: /usr/lib/libavcodec-cvs.so: undefined symbol: faacDecOpen" Well, I read on the net that is about some dynamic dependencies of libavcodec-cvs and (probably) thats why it crashes. So i'll compile mplayer my self as explained on the mplayerplug-in page and test it all again later today Thanks for your quick answer! Regards Anders Lind |

And I did not(!) need to set the 'user-agent=NSPlayer' line into mplayerplug-in.conf so that is nice! In fact an empty mplayerplug-in.conf worked all fine for me. The only problem left is the mms problem described in my earlier posting! Thanks for your help Kevin and Michael. Regards Anders Lind |
