I didnt find any user-level mailing lists for mplayer-plugin so I am posting here. I compiled and installed mplayer-plugin for Firefox( 1.0.2 ) but nothing will play ( video/audio ). When I goto load a video file a grey box will appear and buffer to 99% then say "playing foobar.avi" but nothing happens. I do not see any controls on the grey area. If I right click on the grey area and click "play", which is not checked btw, occasionally I can see the "playing foobar.avi" refresh itself so I guess the plugin is responding. I went throught the FAQ online and can say the following: * Usually it means that either the video you are trying to view is unreachable by mplayer - no, it buffers the file fine * the media is corrupt - no, I can play the same file normally on the command line * mplayer does not have a codec to play the video - no for the above reason * you have an old version of mplayer - I have 1.0pre4-3.4.1 compiled from source via Gentoo's emerge system * it is a misconfiguration - I guess this is the only thing left Ive tried a few things but could not figure out how to get it to work. Any help is appreciated. thanks, jon |

I believe on=20 Gentoo you need to set a flag so you get the latest version. The current=20 version is 2.85 and I know it is in Gentoo. Also, did you install the mplayer essential codecs pack? You said you read= =20 thru the FAQ, but did you do the testing of the plugin to ensure that it wa= s=20 working right? Kevin |

Im pretty sure I have more or less every codec that works with mplayer. I can play windows media files just fine on the command line. But besides that, I cannot even play ogg or mp3 files with the mplayer-plugin. Are there any specific tests I can do to ensure mplayer is working properly? |

Jon, I think I found your problem but I need you to try something for me. I believe your problems is with mplayer based on the info from the below lo= g.=20 =46ind a local media file on your disk and play it with mplayer using these= =20 options mplayer -user-agent NSPlayer -osdlevel 0 -nojoystick -slave -nomouseinput=20 And let me know what the error is. You'll also notice that the minimum vers= ion=20 of mplayer recommended is 1.0pre5 and you have 1.0pre4.=20 Also in the below log you have the error message "MPlayer was compiled WITHOUT streaming(network) support" Streaming network support is required for mplayerplug-in to work correctly= =20 with mplayer.
