I definitely don't plan on having to run any browser as root on a regular basis. --ALex |

Alex, Good catch... I knew that putting logs in /tmp was not a great idea, but = did=20 not consider this case as I don't run anything other than sysadmin tools = as=20 root. Hi, I'd just like to point out a not so serious bug in mplayerplug-in. If you run your browser as root (not usually a good idea, but it happens) and while browsing as root you view a video, the log files in /tmp have root as their owner. As it should be. However, if you then close your browser and open it as a normal user, when the plugin tries to initialize it will crash the browser. This is because it is trying to erase/write to the log files that it does not have privileges to access. Simply rm'ing the files as root and then running the browser as a normal user solves the problem but it's a hassle. This isn't a huge deal, but it's something to be aware of. --Alex ----------------------------------------------- PGP key availabe at pgp.mit.edu Only the most recently dated keys work |

This conversation really should be moved to=20
mpl...@li...
But I'll try to explain it...
Mozilla give the plugin either a URL or a STREAM depending on if the HTML=
=20
specifies an <A HREF> or <EMBED> tag. The plugin takes the information th=
at=20
it is given and make some decisions.=20
If it is a URL then the plugin calls mplayer to play the file out of the=20
mozilla cache. Plugger test pages for example
If it is a stream, the plug requests the stream from Mozilla, gets the UR=
L out=20
of the stream and then closes the stream and passes the URL for mplayer t=
o=20
play. Why is this done rather than passing the stream to mplayer?=20
1. Because I don't want to have to deal with demuxing URL's to determine =
if=20
they are reference or content files. If I did this, I might be able to qu=
eue=20
up URL's, but that is not something I am willing to tackle yet.=20
2. If I pass the stream to mplayer and it is a reference file, mplayer do=
es=20
not know where to get the referenced files from so it dies. If it is not =
a=20
reference file I should be able to pass the stream to mplayer. Without=20
demuxing it is impossible to get this right.
3. The wget examples were tests to see how mplayer would respond to refer=
ence=20
files coming from stdin.

Hi,
v.0.23 compiled and worked flawlessly on a Mandrake 8.2 (GCC 2.96),
tested with mplayer 0.90rc2 and Mozilla 20030117 (compiled from CVS on

when compiling 0.30, I get the following

Just a notice that mplayerplug-in v0.30 is out and is finally stable. As always it is available at: http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/ Problems Fixed since 0.23 the last release: Playing more that 3 videos back to back used to cause mplayerplug-in to c= rash=20 mozilla. This bug has finally been fixed. I highly recommend you upgrade = if=20 you are using the plugin. Logging is now done to the files /tmp/mppi[1-3].log Shared memory fixes and cleanups -vo and -ao options are not hard coded anymore, let mplayer use its defau= lts =09see mplayer docs about ~/.mplayer/config file on how to set those added asx file extension handleing Konqueror display fixes.=20 Some typo and "=3D" vs "=3D=3D" fixes Still to do. Allow customized logging location Somehow beable to report back if mplayer can't handle a video, but mplaye= r can=20 handle everything right! Hi, I was wondering if your pluging can play those files at http://www.apple.com/switch/ads, and not finishing after one second or so? If I play eg. http://a1696.g.akamai.net/7/1696/51/a8195950d1e27b/www.apple.com/switch/ads/images/delasoul_ctp.mov with mplayer, I only see a short flash of the move. Using -loop makes mplayer come and go with a new window. Only gmplayer -loop 0 seems to work for me, only clicking on 'Click to play' doesn't work. So, how do you play these? Regards, Koos |

I have the same experience - streaming doesn't seem to work, but the plug= ger=20 site does. =20 For streaming sites, all I get is the box marking the plugin area with th= e=20 little text in seemingly a random colour. Fabian, Spawning another program was a good idea. I tried spawning "gedit" and th= e=20 plugin did the same thing. I have also removed the streaming path out of = the=20 code and that did not change it either. I ran across this website that seems to confirm the problem I am having http://www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/user/kp229/ndvi/netscape_x11.html Looks like it is a problem with the X Event handler in mozilla/netscape. = So=20 far I have been unable to work around it. Basically it looks like Mozilla= is=20 calling a null pointer or something.=20 Yes, the double fork is necessary. If you only call the fork once it caus= es=20 mozilla to hang. I have tried rewriting the forking code but have been un= able=20 to make it work clean.=20 Kevin On Wednesday 15 January 2003 13:08, you wrote: > Am Mittwoch, 15. All, I am having a problem with the plugin and I am wondering if it is my mach= ine=20 or the plugin I try to play three videos in a row at the www.apple.com/switch/ads site=20 mozilla will crash. I am using mozilla 1.2.1 on RedHat 8. As a user I usally switch videos before the first one is done.=20 Also, if I use the plugger test site (which are not streaming) I can swit= ch=20 all day long, so I am not sure if it is the streaming/embeded code or if = it=20 is due to the QT6 codec in mplayer, or even the playlist code. Since mpla= yer=20 runs in its own thread memory should not be preserved across sessions. Can anyone else duplicate this error. It happens with 0.23 of the plugin. Kevin |
