I'm using mplayerplugin 2.66 with mplayer 1.0pre4-3.3.2 in Firefox 0.8 on Gentoo. Everything works great with the majority of videos/streams (thank you!), but...
When I try to watch Windows Media streams from news.com I hear the audio of the advertisement without video, then it tries to load the main video but without success. It has never worked with previous versions either.
Is anyone experiencing the same problem? Does it work for anyone? If not, my motivation to fix it will be little :)
An example URI:
The video at that site plays perfectly.
This command should work from the command line
I would guess you are missing the optional codecs
Thanks for the prompt reply. You're right, it seems to be a codec issue. I installed the updated win32codecs package (win32codecs-20040427), but it doesn't appear to solve my problem.
Now looking at the output of mplayer, the problem appears to occur before a codec is even selected. Must have something to do with the ASF header parser...

After posting this issue on the mplayer-users mailing list, it appears it simply might not work with mplayer-1.0pre4. They say it works with the newest CVS versions.
What version are you running?
Thanks for your help,
I'm using mplayer CVS version
