Next stable release of mpd5 branch presents improved performance, scalability, additional features and bugfixes.
This ng_car release is equal to the present FreeBSD HEAD/7-STABLE branches state.
Changes:
- Added option to set packets per second limits instead of default bits per second ones.
- Improved node performance.
- Fixes node accounting in shape mode.
Mpd5 has got most of planned functionality, passed numerous tests and reached production ready state. Remarking this I am glad to present you a new mpd-5.0 release, the first release of the new epoch!
Comparing to 4.x, mpd5 presents significantly changed configuration and operation ideology, based on dynamic link/bundle creation. This gives such benefits as simplified configuration, completely functional multilink operation, call forwarding (LAC, PAC, TSA) and many others.
Next version of the mpd4 stable branch released.
As most of development now mpd5 oriented, 4.4 is
mostly a bugfix release. It is recommended as
easy way to update existing mpd3/4 setups for
cases where mpd5 mirgation complicated due to
configuration changes.
For new setups mpd5 is recommended.
Second candidate into mpd5.0 released.
It is mostly a bugfix release.
First candidate into mpd5.0 released.
It includes some new features, performance optimizations and fixes.
Mpd is a netgraph based PPP implementation for FreeBSD. Mpd supports thousands of Sync, Async, PPTP, L2TP, PPPoE, TCP and UDP links in client, server and access concentrator (LAC/PAC/TSA) modes. It is very fast and functional.
Next beta version released. It includes some new features, performance optimizations, tunings and fixes.
Released next public mpd5 beta version. It's main goal was code stabilizing, but also some new features were implemented.
This is the first public release of the mpd-5.x branch.
The main goal of this branch is to implement new
operation principles based on dynamic on-demand
links/bundles creation.
Mpd5 in HEAD CVS branch now implements all required functionality. Testers are welcome!
As mpd 4.x branch reached it's goals and become stable, next 5.x branch started.
The main goal of the new 5.x branch is in implementation of the new dynamic internal design and configuration syntax, which will permit to avoid configuring all needed links at startup time, by the creating them on demand.
To permit further improvement of the 4.x branch, CVS branch MPD_4 created.
Changes since 4.2.2 release:
- Added configure script for better system features detection
and so added ability to build without ng_car module.
- Several new PPPoE and L2TP configuration options.
- Reimplemented RADIUS Class attribute support.
- Added native 64bit ng_ppp stat counters support.
- Added initial ng_ipacct node support.
- Several bugs fixed in PPTP, L2TP, DoD and proxy-arp.
Urgent release was made to fix bug with default route handeling.
I am glad to present you second stable release of mpd4.x branch - the mpd4.2. It includes many bug fixes, new features and performance improvements.
The most significant new features is a
- link repeater functionality, also known as LAC/PAC,
- complete L2TP support,
- multihomed PPTP support,
- traffic filtering/shaping with netgraph.

I am glad to present you the first stable release of mpd4.x branch - the mpd4.1!
It has almost a two years passed since last stable release of mpd3.18 and I must say that this time wasn't spent useless. Comparing to the 3.18, release 4.1 presents:
- performance multithreading auth backend,
- IPv6 support,
- L2TP link type,
- working TCP and UDP link types,
- NetFlow,
- NAT,
- new Telnet console,
- WEB interface,
- Deflate and Predictor-1 traffic compression,
- DESE-bis traffic encryption,
- _HUGE_ amount of bug fixes, refactoring cases and performance optimizations. ... read more
Here is one more and probably the last stop on the way to next stable release of mpd-4.x. We will be graceful for any bug reports you can submit.
This time mpd version was bumped from 4.0rc2 to 4.1rc2 due to large number of changes done since 4.0b4 and detected FreeBSD ports version number conflict.

, or install it via FreeBSD ports system.
After long time of development I am glad to present you a first candidate to long waited and at last coming soon release of Mpd-4.0! Next 2-3 weeks will be spent for testing and bug fixing to make first release of new brunch production stable in all possible ways. We will be graceful for any bug reports you can submit.
