New release of mp4sync improves media collection sync

Mp4sync is an opensource free tool designed to help users keeping the music collection on their MP3/MP4 player up to date with the collection on the PC.

It uses a specific algorithm to find out updates requuired in the collection. This reduces drastically the time required to send updates.

It also includes specific options to workaround bugs in some low end chinese MP3/MP4 players.

mp4sync 0.1.2 adds more features for chinese MP4 players

mp4sync aims to help copying and synchronizing files to your favorite MP3/MP4 player. This new version comes with more features for chinese super buggy players. Those player often claim to have a size of 4 to 8 GB but cannot hold more than 1 or 2 GB. mp4sync will help detect the actual size of the player so that it can be re-formatted to its actual size. The very first release of mp4sync is out

This new projects aims to develop a tool for helping end user to copy files on any common MP3/MP4 player and keep the player content up to date with a refence copy.

It is very simple to use :

Prerequisite : you must first ensure that you have Java installed on your computer with at least version 5.0. you can download it from http://java.sun.com

1. Connect your player using a USB cable to the computer. Mount it, that is open a folder to view files. Take note of the folder name, itl will be useful later.
2. Start mp4sync. Usually you can do it by double clicking the mp4sync.jar file. if not, use the following command line : "java -jar mp4sync.jar" from the folder where the jar file is located.
3. In the first text box, mention the root of your music library on your computer. You can also use the browse button to select the place where your music is stored on the computer.
4. In the second text box, just mention the root folder of the player as noted in step 1.
5. if you have a limited chinese player (type of player that don't accept more that 99 files in each folder) uncheck the unlimited player check box.
6. The check button will compare the reference folder and indicate operation the synchronize button will perform.... read more
