I'm running Win7. I get the following result when trying to join split .mp4 files.

    VLC 2.2.4 says:

    "Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format "avc3" (No description for this codec)"

My input .mp4 files are identical resolutions and have one avc1 video stream and one audio stream (and are actually split files from original) but all outputs have an added avc3 video stream and cannot play video. Selecting either video stream in VLC returns the "avc3" error.

I don't want to have to re-encode in order to re-join split files.

I'm running Win10 I've got the same message in VLC. Now I think I've found the reason. My original MP4-files I tried to join with MP4 Joiner has been converted with audio-AAC Codec but not in stereo rather in MONO by sample rate of less than 16000Hz. Now I converted the same files with the same codec but in stereo with sample rate of 44100Hz. Now the joiner worked immediately and very quick.
In mono it works also, but only with AMR codec.

Had this problem too. In the end I gave up on it and used this instead: http://www.emmgunn.com/mp4tools-home/ . It's not free but it's cheap ($5.99) and I already had it as I use it for re-encoding ac3 to aac audio for my Roku; I just didn't know it supported joining until I had this problem. The resulting video is working fine.
