Does not update mp3 file even when says it does.

Linux, x86_64, Intel CPU. Version 1.5.2, compiled from source (Gentoo Linux)
mp3gain says it updates a file but doesn't.
Even using -t (temp file) has no effect.
Not all files, have not found a common denominator yet.
Chapter 4 of Bram Strokers Dracula from librivox is an example, chapter 4 (downloaded quite some time ago)

Other files, the IDv3 tags are inserted, but some files, they are not.
Files are writable.
They are on an ntfs-3g filesystem but I don't see that having an issue.
