Alastair, Thanks for the quick reply. First things first, it all works! Last night I shutdown my PC Server, then this morning I took the LCD and the TINI off of the elf, put them back, restarted my PC, telnet'd to the elf and started it and ... viola - MP3s over my home LAN!! Very cool. Now I have a networking issue which I'll send on to Chris. > <MP3elf Name =3D "wilko" ID =3D "00.30.1B.XX.XX.XX"> > you need to put the MAC address of your TINI in there. > Also make sure you have a file "default.m3u" with full filename path to= >your MP3 files. The MAC address of the TINI makes sense, but when things don't work as ex= pected, well, strange configs have been know to work ;) A question about the MAC address: Why use it? I haven't poked into the El= f Server code yet, but using MAC addresses configured on the server seems very restrictive and somewhat user unfriendly. Perhaps a friendlier plug-= n-play scheme could be something like:: Elf boots, broadcasts message to find El= f Server, sends MAC address to Elf Server. >Also, hopefully you followed the instructions about putting the LCD >connector the other way around (silkscreen is wrong) - it's mentioned in= >Chris' assembly instructions PDF. That's happened to one or two people. >Normally shouldn't kill anything. I ordered a fully constructed mp3elf (I'm strictly a software person), an= d whoever put this one together did a great job. The work is *really* clean= and the finished product looks superb! -- Tim. |
