Has anyone managed to get the Raspberry Pi camera board working with motion? If so, what did you chage in motion.conf? Sent from my iPad |

I have seen many success stories on the internet. Could you describe what issues do you have? Well that's the first problem - I haven't found any success stories. I found many that show how to take a five second video, etc, and I've done all that - the camera is functional but I haven't found any articles about successfully getting the camera board to work with motion so if you have a link handy please feel free to send it along. I'll head back to google to see where my search parameters are failing. Thank you! On Tue, Jul 30, 2013 at 3:03 AM, tosiara <to...@gm...> wrote: > I have seen many success stories on the internet. See this thread on the rPi forums: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=44966 It seems to be working via modified version of motion that uses the native cam APIs. Hey all. I just wanted to report back that I have successfully made motion to work using the Raspberri Pi camera board and the instructions in the thread Joe Carter provided did work. This Raspberry Pi was pretty much right out of the box, no other software was installed. I had to install two packages to satisfy dependancies (see below) but that was it. Now to figure out how to mount this thing to the back of the door and have the camera in a peephole. Original link: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=44966 Other software I had to install before motion would run. 89 sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient18 95 sudo apt-get install libpq5 Greg On Wed, Jul 31, 2013 at 3:35 AM, Joe Carter <joe...@gm...> wrote: > See this thread on the rPi forums: > http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=44966 > It seems to be working via modified version of motion that uses the native > cam APIs. > > > On 30 July 2013 17:58, Greg Brown <gwb...@gm...> wrote: > >> Well that's the first problem - I haven't found any success stories. Greg, Usually steps to make motion work are 1) plug usb webcam 2) start motion - that's it. https://www.google.lt/search?q=raspberry+pi+motion&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr Are you able to compile or install motion from repos? Are you able to run it? If you think it does not work - what error do you receive? Original poster asked about RaspberryPi camera module, which is NOT a USB camera, it has proprietary interface and requires custom built as Joe pointed out. With supported USB camera it is very straight forward, but that's not the case here. Or you can get a RK3066 based Android device for $40 US which has two 1.6 GHz cores, 1 GB RAM and 8 GB NAND and install Ubuntu 12.10. This will handle motion detection with one core at 1 GHz (uses only 25% CPU), 1280x720 @ 10 FPS using a USB webcam. You can use the other core for encoding or OpenCV based processes. I wouldn't use Motion since there are better solutions out there. I've been using two of these for security cams running a couple of months now. https://github.com/sgjava/cvp/wiki/Architecture I've added ROI (motion based region of interest) people detection, so that process is 50%-2000% faster than analyzing the whole frame. I'm near solving real time people detection with OpenCV HOG on low end devices. Obviously this isn't best for a lot of people (like a mall or airport), but it's great for someone coming to your door even with a lot of ambient movement in the background.
