Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced 4-port v4l capture card for use with Motion? I am UK based, but suspect it may well be cheaper to import something from HK - any links to something which is KNOWN to work would be appreciated. A 4-chip card would be best, but i'm also interested in 1-chip versions too with a slower frame rate for each port. I'd also prefer something that isn't a BT848/878 chipset if possible. Thanks, |

Hi all, I have a Axis 207W which should be able to provide 30fps @ 640x480. With motion I only see 7-12fps (stored as jpeg with %q) per second. Also it is not constant, one second I get 7 images the next second I get 12. Is it a problem of storing the images or lie the vendor of the camera? Kind Regards, Andreas Kreisl |

Yes, that patch has the same effect as my 'typedef', and may be (philosophically) better (not sure, but not important). Ted, the chat channel is mentioned on http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/FreeNodeIRC. There's a lot of very good use made of it. Bill |

Well, following Angel's reply, I upgraded kernel to 2.6.27-9 just in case. gcc version checked out, so I re-downloaded from svn, compiled... and hey presto. maybe issue with 2.6.27-8? Thanks for the help. In case your interested, I am trying to set up a combined security and effectv system for a music bar - loopback will be essential I think. |

Grant, 3 of my cameras use the extenders. I don't have to much trouble, but once in awhile I loose the feed and have to restart motion. Your mileage (or yardage) will vary, of course - from cable to cable to adapters and of course devices as well. It is one camera per one USB1.1-controller, you can have more cameras on USB2.0, if I remember correctly :) /Fritiof 2008/11/23 Ronald D. I haven't configured motion with capture cards, only network cameras, but to me it sounds like you're trying to use an NTSC signal but your system is configured for PAL (that happened to me as I had an old PlayStation...). If you're using an BTTV card you may be interested in this page: http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/ConfigOptionNorm /Fritiof 2008/11/23 Peter <lin...@se...> > Thanks all. Thanks all. I ended up using a small program called Duplicity which behaves much like Rsync but uses FTP. Now for another question, I have a 4 port capture card that seems to be working ok. If Iplug the camera into my AV input on my TV, I get a color image but if I plug it into my card, it comes up as black and white. Any ideas? I am using motion as part of the LINUXMCE setup for those interested Peter wrote: > Hi all. > > I am looking for a way of copying/mirroring all files such as JPG's > movies etc that Motion writes to the local hdd to an off site sotrage. > What does eveyone use? TEST AND TAG Service. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. |

I remember reading that I can only use one USB camera per computer with motion. Is that right? Was it one per USB controller maybe? - Grant |

When trying to compile motion 3.2.11 on Fedora 9 I get a No FFMpeg support error. FFMpeg 4.9.x from Livna is on the system. Does 3.2.11 work with 4.9 FFMpeg? You might consider using Jungle Disk. With their software you can mount the a virtual drive that is backed by Amazon's S3 service. The storage and transfer costs at Amazon are very reasonable (something like $0.15 per GB). You can then mount the same Jungle disk from other machines and still have access to all your files without using any extra storage. See http://www.jungledisk.com for details. Hope this helps.
