This is my experience as well - turning off detection does not significantly reduce the CPU. This may be because the streaming web server is still running. I found this on my 266 MHz machine where I was trying to cut down the CPU (hence electricity) being used at night when the webcam couldn't see anything anyway. I found reducing the image size to be the best way to offload the CPU - I went from 640x480 to 320x240 and the CPU dropped from 75% busy to 15%. The 256 Mb of memory may have been an issue, but it now only needs 30 - 50 MB - I'm not sure how much memory it used with the larger image size. ________________________________ From: Fritiof Hedman <fr...@he...> To: A. I've did some testing yesterday and noticed that the CPU usage didn't went down as expected, when i call /detection/pause/ the CPU-usage remains the same (5fps 640x480 netcam, CPU usage about 20%). As you may notice, it's a quite slow machine (1GHz Intel P3), I got another rack mounted machine as well but that's to noisy to run in my home (If it's in the garage you could still hear it through the walls!). Is there any way to let motion NOT to do any motion-detection at all and rely on the camera it self? Many thanks, Fritiof On 5 May 2010 04:52, A.
