Xmt Library, Website, and Call for Volunteers

Hello Motif Developers!

The following is an announcement that David Flanagan and myself have put
together.

The announcement starts with David's part first, followed by mine.

------------------ David's announcement follows ---------------

The Xmt - Motif Tools library is now open-source, and version 3.0.0
can be downloaded from:

http://motiftools.org

or from:

http://motiftools.sourceforge.net

Version 3.0.0 is identical to version 2.1.3, except that it is
available under the new open license.

Jeffrey Franks is responsible for reviving Xmt, for making it
open-source, and for setting up the motiftools project at
sourceforge.net. He will be coordinating future Xmt development.
Please read his announcement below.

If you are using Xmt, or are planning to use it in the future, be sure
to subscribe to the new Xmt mailing lists, which Jeff describes below.
And, if you want to go beyond just using Xmt and would like to take an
active role in improving it, Jeff is actively looking for developers to
help with this effort. Contact him at the e-mail address he gives
below.

If you've contributed to Xmt in the past, check the "Contributors"
section of the website. If you don't find your name there, please let
Jeff know. Finally, if you've used Xmt in a large or interesting
project that you'd like to tell other developers about, please tell Jeff
know about it, so he can write it up for the web site.

As always, thanks for your interest in Xmt.

Sincerely,

David Flanagan

---------------------- Jeff's announcement follows ---------------

Xmt is now formally "Open Source" status as of version 3.0.0. Xmt
is being provided at no charge to the developer community.

Also, Xmt users and developers now have a web site to focus the
activity related to Xmt open source collaborative development and
user support. You can find more information about this at:

http://motiftools.org

or

http://motiftools.sourceforge.net

I am administering the web site and the Xmt Motif Tools
Project hosted by Source Forge on their servers. I'm
looking forward to serving the needs of the Xmt community, and
coordinating further development of Xmt.

Download capability for Xmt 3.0.0 is now operational along with
list servers that you can access via the web locations noted
above:

Xmt-announce - a low volume list used exclusively for
announcements related to Xmt releases,
documentation, and technical papers.

Xmt-users - a low to moderate volume list used to
discuss Xmt usage, porting issues, and
general discussion.

I am interested in adding developers to the Xmt - Motif Tools
Project. People from all technical disciplines can be used
for documentation, widget extension and creation, testing,
debugging, porting to other platforms/compilers, etc. If
you would like to be part of this collaborative team work,
here are some of the features of the Source Forge site that
will find of benefit:

* Site Summary (users and developers)
* News (users and developers)
* Docs (users and developers)
* Support (users and developers)
* Bug Tracking (users and developers)
* Forums (users and developers)
* Patches (users and developers)
* Surveys (users and developers)
* Tasks (users and developers)
* CVS (developers)
* Anonymous FTP (developers)
* Xmt-developer list server (private)

Also, there are two Xmt sister projects that are taking shape:

* Xmt++ (a Model-View-Controller framework using Xmt).
* Xmt-Taskmaster (a UI architecture for very large
applications that must be able to scale).

If you would like to be part of the development team in any
capacity, please send me email regarding this to the following
address:

motiftools@users.sourceforge.net

If you contributed to Xmt in the past and you don't see your
name on the contributor's list, please let me know so that I
can amend the list. David and I want to give credit to all who
have been a part of this effort.

We thank all for your support and trust this announcement is
great news for those that have in interest or are using Xmt!

Sincerely,

Jeffrey L. Franks
