I think this list has been dormant for quite some time but perhaps someone out here can help me. What's the secret for ensuring that dialogue boxes remain on top? We use XmCreateMessageDialog() to create the standard INFO, WORKING, etc. dialogues but they can get covered by other main windows. We want to make sure that these dialogues, particulary INFO dialogues, are properly made visible and acknowleged. Any suggestions? -- Jake Colman Principia Partners LLC Phone: (201) 209-2467 Harborside Financial Center Fax: (201) 946-0320 902 Plaza Two E-mail: co...@pp... I'm wondering if the cut and paste behavior is breaking due to a mixed X environment and KDE (based on Qt)? I don't know. There have been other reports of the breakage that you have described. Hi, I have a problem for porting cut-and-paste from SGI to linux: I create an InputField in a DialogBox with the following code: c=0; XtSetArg (arg[c], XmtNlayoutIn, WBox11); c++; Winp = XmtCreateInputField (WB, "XmTextField", arg, c); XtManageChild(Winp); In SGI this works well but in linux it fails when I try to paste or cut some text in it. Did I miss to set any resource ? Is there a simple way to implement that. I use Xmt 2.1.3 and OpenMotif ICS 2.1.30 on linux RedHat 6.2 Rmq: If I use the XmtAskForFilename Widget, there is no cut-and-paste problem with the text widgets. Thanks in advance for any hint. Hi Jeffrey, It's not really an intriguing idea to make it work on Cygwin. We use Xmt for our Optimization application (Boss-Quattro) and for the moment our Win32 port was using NutCracker. Building Xmt on Cygwin, we could do all without NutCracker. I build Xmt (2.1.2 and 3.1.0) without problem. But when I try to port a simple XmtLayout application on cygwin, it crashes at function XmtCreateLayout(...): Xmt/Layout.c : return XtCreateWidget(name, xmtLayoutWidgetClass, parent, args, n); Here's some information about our version : OS : WinNT 4.00.1381 (SP6) Xfree86 : X11R6.4 from ftp://mirrors.rcn.net/pub/sourceware/cygwin/xfree/xc-4-binaries/4.1.0 X-Server : Exceed 6.0.1.0 Cygwin : 1.3.2 from www.cygwin.com GCC : 2.95.3-5 Motif : LessTif 0.92.95 Xmt : 2.1.2 and 3.1.0 The example I try to build : //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// #include <Xmt/Xmt.h> #include <Xmt/Create.h> #include <Xmt/Layout.h> static char* fallback_resources[] ={"*_layout.xmtType: XmtLayout" , NULL }; void main(int argc, char *argv[]) { XtSetLanguageProc(NULL,NULL,NULL); XtAppContext app; Arg argList[10]; int n = 0; XmtPatchVisualInheritance(); XtSetArg( argList[n], XmNallowShellResize, True ); n++; Widget TopLevel = XmtInitialize( &app, "app", NULL, 0,&argc, argv, fallback_resources, argList, n ); XmtRegisterAll(); Widget MainWin = XtCreatePopupShell("_MainWin",applicationShellWidgetClass, TopLevel,NULL,0); Widget mainUI= XmtCreateQueryChild( MainWin,"_layout",NULL ); XtPopup(MainWin,XtGrabNone); XtAppMainLoop(app); } //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////// __________________________________________ ___ Jerome COLOOS @/ \@ Tel : 32-4/361.69.69 \? ?/ Fax : 32-4/361.69.80 ==\ /== mailto:jer...@sa... ? http://www.samcef.com SAMTECH s.a. Hi, Jeffery, Thanks for the reply. I sent that email to you one month ago (about 22nd or 23rd Feb) , may be I didn't send it to the right place. Anyway, it is nice that you get it now. As soon as you give me the wording, I will forward to the people who is in charge, and hopefully, she will make the decision soon. I have not got a chance to try the Xmt new feature on our system. We are under code frozen period after a release. But I think it must be very good. Regards Maggie > -----Original Message----- > From: Jeffrey L. Hi Xmt Users, The web site statistics for all SourceForge projects were just recently restored. Here is the official SourceForge announcement: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2001-03-14) SourceForge project statistics are now back online. Historical data has been processed and all statistical data is now up-to-date. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This means that you can now see the statistics including page hits and file downloads. As a side note, the developer group is hard at work putting in content, bug fixes, and extensions for the next release. It is good to see that so many are finding Xmt benecicial. Thank you and take care. -- Jeffrey L. Franks NET: jf...@tg... NET: mot...@us... WEB: http://motiftools.org |

Hi Xmt Users, We have recently announced a new release of Xmt and you may be wondering how is it that the download counters for this release always show zero. The reason is that the Source Forge hosting web site statistics for Motiftools.org and all 15,000+ projects on Source Forge have been disabled since the later weeks in December of '2000. That is also the reason that the original Xmt release stopped showing incremental downloads, although they have been occuring. Source Forge is working on the problem. The original implementation did not scale and was not reporting accurately. The new implementation will fix that but it is not ready to be enabled at this time. We have not been advised by Source Forge as to the restoration strategy regarding statistics during the time that this feature was disabled. We don't know if this information will be restored, or if this information is lost. Time will tell. I will advise when the statistics have been fixed and enabled. Please be assured that there are downloads occuring every day even though the counters show zero. This is also evident by the project activity indicators, which have been increasing daily since the new release announcement. -- Jeffrey L. Franks NET: jf...@tg... NET: mot...@us... Hi, We are pleased to announce that a Xmt survey has been activated on our Source Forge hosting web site. Feedback from users of the Xmt library is needed in order to apply resources in serving your needs. The purpose of this survey is to determine how this is best accomplished. Please feel free to participate in this brief survey so that we can service your your better. You will be asked to enter your user account on Source Forge. If you do not have one, you can get one free. The survey (and new user account) can be obtained via the following URL: http://sourceforge.net/survey/?group_id=13298 Take care, -- Jeffrey L. The following message is a courtesy copy of an article that has been posted to comp.windows.x,comp.windows.x.motif,comp.windows.x.intrinsics as well. (this message is being posted to a number of related newsgroups and email lists since I have had no response to prior postings and am hoping someone reading this can help me.) My problem is with the display of my application across different X Servers. I use a resource file to specify the fonts to be used for my XmLabel widgets, XmText widgets, etc. The fonts are specified fairly generically using wildcards in the usual places. My first problem is that the app displays its screens as I'd expect only a PC-based Exceed Server but displays with grossly larger fonts when displayed on a native Sun X Server. As near as I can tell both servers have the same fonts available to them, yet they are not selecting the same font. A related problem is that when the app is built on a system with a non-standard locale (UK) and displayed on a server running on a system with a standard locale (US) the application crashed. In this case, the app crashes due to a documented bug related to fonts not being found when attempting to query font metrics. So, again, the two servers are not each picking up the font I think I specified. So, to solve this, how can I precisely determine which specific font is being used by a specific widget given my font spec? I have confirmed to the best of my ability, using tools like xlsfonts, xfontsel, xfd to check that the proper fonts would be selected on each server given the same ambiguous spec. Yet, the screens are not displaying in an identical manner. How can I have the application itself tell me which font it is using? Hi Tryggvi, Which version of Xmt are you using? I saw that behavior for an Xmt version prior to the Motif 2.1 port. There are some #defines in the code that switch in alternate versions of the code at critical locations that prevent this. I've not seen the problem in a Solaris environment, but I'll see if I can get a Linux environment up with Motif and give you more feedback. Any more information regarding the problem is appreciated. --Jeffrey L. Franks |

Hi Folks, According to the FAQ that Kenton Lee maintains: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: 308) How can I implement "bubble help" or "tool tips" with Motif? [Last modified: Sep 98] Answer: Gary Aviv (ga...@co...) informed this maintainer about the free LiteClue widget from Computer Generation, Inc. (http://www.compgen.com/). LiteClue is a widget which pops a one line help message when the user passes the pointer over another "watched" widget. This is known by various names in the industry such as hints, clues, tips, bubble help and balloon help. Technical documentation and source for the LiteClue widget are available from: http://www.compgen.com/widgets/LiteClue.html ftp://ftp.compgen.com/pub/widgets/LiteClue.tar.Z Ken Lee (http://www.rahul.net/kenton/) writes: A simple technique is to popup a shell containing your message whenever an enter event occurs (possibly delayed by a timer) and pop it down again after a leave event. Morris Hirsch (hi...@cs...) has another approach and contributed a code example which is over 1000 lines, so I've put the code on our web site: http://www.cen.com/mw3/bubbleHelp.txt David Lewis (db...@ic...) writes: To those resources I should add that the XmHTML sources (HTML parser, browser, etc) have this ToolTip/bubble-help/popup feature, in readily-usable code. In addition, the ICS EnhancementPak widget set (http://www.ics.com) has both a toolbar with built-in popups for its entries and a small library which adds popup capabilities to any widget. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take care, Jeff |

Then we'll see if we can patch the make stuff to get it working. Thanks very much for the info. Take care, Jeffrey L. Franks |
