I have connected two computers through a crossover ethernet cable and can ping each other. I start the openmosixview but cannot find another computer. I use Quantian live cd. How to make openmosixview to find another computer? Thanks! |

Hi Kunal, sorry for the delay, on a business trip. First, yes, the rpm depends on libglut for the 3dmosmon. Then when running setup the openmosixview binaries are being installed in /usr/bin so that they are actually in the path. The setup does not add them to any menus for the window-managers so after running setup just execute "openmosixview" on a shell. hope it helps, have a great day, Matt -----Original Message----- Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2007 05:01:00 +0100 Subject: Re: [Mosixview-user] Correct version for Redhat 9 From: "Kunal Katkoria" <kka...@gm...> To: mos...@li... Hi Andy, nice to hear that you got the password-less ssh-login working on your nodes. You can check if it is working with openMosixview by e.g. increasing/decreasing the nodes speed in the main window. This will result in a remote-mosctl command via ssh on the node you are moving the slider. On the node you can check if the command was executed correctly by running the mosctl util locally and compare the speed to what openMosixview displays (-> should be the same) You can also check /var/log/messages on the remote node for any ssh-logins while executing a openMosix command via openMosixview. For getting the openMosixprocs working you need to have the openMosixprocs installed on each of your cluster-nodes. Also you need to set "xhost +" to allow the remote nodes to open X-windows application (-> openMosixprocs) on the main/local display (the workstations X on the system you are running openMosixview on). Be aware to do this only in trusted-networks because setting "xhost +" is unsecure. It will allow all nodes to display X-apps on your display. You can also set "xhost +[cluster-nodes-hostname]" for each of your cluster-nodes to get a better security. btw: for getting the openMosixprocs working you need to make sure that your default ssh-client setup supports X-forwarding. You can enable/disable this in /etc/ssh/ssh_config on your system you are running openMosixview on. -> ForwardX11 yes You can check if this option is enabled by login in to one of your remote nodes by "ssh [cluster-nodes-hostname]" and running openMosixprocs from the console. The openMosixprocs application window should be opened on your local systems X-windows. If not please try the same but login by "ssh -X [cluster-node-hostname]". If the first did not work but the second you need to adjust your ssh_config. If you still have problems with that please try to run openMosixview by the strace command. e.g. "strace openmosixview" Then execute some openMosix-commands or move the sliders. The output of the strace would be intresting and usefull to help you better. many thanks and stay tuned, Matt Andres De Carlo wrote: > Hello guys: > > I am able to connect ssh from either of my nodes without being prompt > for a password or either a passphrase, that’s right. Hello guys: I am able to connect ssh from either of my nodes without being prompt for a password or either a passphrase, that's right. Now I have been trying to use the openmosixview and it seems not to do anything, I mean when I try to anything in the configuration window like set the automigration option on or off / talk to other nodes, etc, well seem not to be doing anything, of course now I don't get prompt for my password which should be fine I guess. And when I try to do like open remote proc doesn't do anything either, is there something else that I need to configure to make work ssh with X11. Thanks again for your help. Andy |

Cc-ing Rexotec, since they are the ones who discovered this.
Looking at the original message [1], I think this has all been fixed in
my patches [2] (20-logdirectory.diff and 50-nonodestmp.diff). At
least,
my patches:
- move the openmosixcollector files to /var/lib/openmosixcollector,
which can be made to be writable only by root
- don't use /tmp/nodes.tmp
Can someone from Rexotec confirm that this fixes the issue?
*smacking myself for not noticing earlier that this was a security
issue*

Hello all,
I am following openMosix development and it's community. Today I
received my weekly mail from SecurityFocus. It mentioned 'Multiple
Insecure Temporary File Creation Vulnerabilities'[1] for openMosixView.
Not finding any messages in the ml-archive, made me send this mail to
the list. Hopefully one of the developers can fix this problem for the
next release and maybe report the fix to SecurityFocus. See the URL for
more details.
For the users of openMosixView:
The vulnerability is not very severe. No need to stress, disable
openMosixView or anything like that. Only local users _could_
exploid this bug. As long as your users of the cluster behave,
you're not in trouble.=20
This bug is published already, therefore my mail is send to the ml, not
directly to the developers.
Hope I can support the openMosix(View) community like this too. Finally
this message should hopefully lead to writing more secure code.
Furthermore I want to note that I'm not a member of this list. Any
replies need to be CCed to my sf.net address, thanks in advance.
Wish you all a nice day,

Hi, when i try this command "ssh nodo1 /usr/bin/openmosixprocs -display localhost:10.0" this command its ok, the bin openmosixprocs started and work so well, the problem start when click on exit button, the program appears exit but ssh terminal not return to prompt mode, at this time if i do a "ps -fe" i can see that openmosixprocs are "defunct". How i can resolve this??? because openmosixview execute this action. pd. if y execute strace over the PID i see this exit_group(0) = ? mi cluster is Debian sid // kernel 2.4.26-om |

Hi List, =20 I'm running openmosix-2.4.24-2 on 16 dual PIII/1GHz machines. The head node has 4 GB of memory and the end nodes have 1 GB each. I just installed openmosixview 1.5 and it reports my head node as having only 2047 MB. Is this some limitation of openmosixview? Also the memory used is at 0 which isn't right either. =20 /proc/hpc/nodes/1/tmem is 4194304000 and /tmp/openmosixcollector/1 lines look like: =20 8.10.2004-10.50.47 50 15049 2047 0 2 =20 (which I assume are timestamp, cpuload, om-speed-rating, memory, mem-used and #cpus) =20 Also via mosmon I see the 4GB, with about 150-200 MB used memory and about 2.5 GB used raw memory. =20 I guessing this is a bug so I'm reporting it. openMosix Summit 2005 Announced
The 2nd openMosix Community Summit will be held at FOSDEM 2005 the
weekend of February 26 27th in Brussels.
FOSDEM (Free and Open Source Developers' European Meeting) is a free and
non commercial event organized for and by the developer and user
community. Its goal is to provide Free and Open Source developers and
their user communities a place to:
* meet with other developers and projects
* be informed about the latest developments in the Free and Open
Source world
* attend interesting talks and presentations held project leaders
and developers
* promote the development and the benefits of Free and Open Source
solutions.
Donations and sponsorships are gratefully accepted, but participation
and attendance are totally *free of charge*.
As last year, we are planning a half day of talks about openMosix. We
need volunteers that are willing to share their experiences with
openMosix as formal or informal talks on how they implemented new
features, how and where they use openMosix, ideas for implementations,
or similar topics. All proposals are welcome.
Several of the openMosix developers have already confirmed that they
plan to participate in the event!

You will find this scripts in the openMosix-user-tools package (in /bin d= ir). To fix your problem (i guess) you just need to copy those script + user-t= ools to every openMosix node in your cluster (at least those wrapper start-scripts should be in /bin) Then it should work ;) (assuming you have passwordless ssh (or rsh) configured -> needed just for openMosixview, not needed by openMosix > What am I doing wrong? ;) oh, i guess nothing, just my documentation still needs to be enhanced > Thanks for your time, openmosixview is really great.
