hello, from Ambient/docs/arexx.txt: 'VIEWID/N: specifies view/widnow ID for which command is executed. It overrides msg-> param obj.' for example: I want to open a browser with 'LoadURI' and then change the view of the same window with 'Viewmode' it can be an ARexx example on how to properly handle this task using the VIEWID argument??? and, there is a way to close a Ambient window via ARexx? thanks, paolo |

Once upon a time sourceforge.net was working more or less properly with stable Amiga browsers. But one day it stopped to work and managing bugitems bacame a huge PITA so Ambient developers looked only very rarely to the bugtracker (f.ex. I didn't looked there for a year or so). And before someone suggests to use a real browser on a real OS for this task... sourceforge.net website is also a real PITA on my OSX Mac. The site is so blown up with flash advertisements and crap it needs 100% CPU usage to have it open, is extremly slow and whatever. Short: the website just stinks. :) As most Ambient developers are part of the MorphOS Team the best ways to report bugs are: o Ambient Public Mailinglist o MorphOS Public Mailinglist o About MorphOS -> 'Report a Bug...' o irc.freenode.net #ambient o irc.freenode.net #morphos All this way will reach the Ambient developers. Enough alternatives for the sucky bugtracker on sf.net, I think ;) regards, -- Christian Rosentreter MorphOS 2.0 ~ http://www.morphos-team.net/ life as the passing sand; when it is grasped, slips between my fingers. |

It's about mixing up usage pattern and concepts. A desktop should have one clear usage pattern when it comes to file operations. There is enough mess and options there already to please almost everyone. Far too much IMHO. Adding even more will just clutter the stuff to a completly unusable mess (not only usability and configuration wise, but also from a source code management point of view). There are 2 kind of views: Lister and Icon There are 2 flags for both views: Thumbnails and Show All (don't get confused by the old - and probably soon going away - Cycles in the ambient view. Hi, First of all I wanted to congrat the whole ambient team: a lot of improvements have been made to this desktop. It's now a lot more usable than any workbench clone (besides DOpus) ! And now here are some suggestions based on the Ambient version included in MorphOS2 (some stuff may have already changed, but I'm not aware...) 1. Appicons -- A special panel that would hold all appicons, or an option to include appicons on a panel (maybe a new "appicon" object that would do that ?) 2. Internal Ambient music player -- - Why does the player exits after having played a file ? What if I want to play again ? - Add a little playlist support, so when clicking on a file we may add it to the queue, or replace it - Add next/prev buttons I know it isn't meant to replace an audio player. But adding these two options would make it a lot more usefull 3. Inline rename -- Seems like it isn't possible in lister mode: should work here as well 3. different views -- Simplify a lot the views... We have: lister/icons, then in each mode, we have icons, show all, thumbnails... That's 3x2 = 6 combinations: that's way too complex... I think we should get rid of the show all stuff: this was usefull when we were using floppy disks, but now we should show all files by default. This way we would have lister/icons/thumnails mode. 4. Desktop -- Is there a way to align icons on a grid ? Thought it was present in earlier versions but couldn't find it in this version. Volume icons are aligned but not shortcuts dropped on the desktop... 5. Listview -- Why isn't lasso selection available in this mode ? 6. DOpus stuff :) -- Double-click anywhere in an ambient window = goto parent directory :) FTP :) Dual Listers ? :) I think that's it.. for now :) Amicalement, Nicolas RAMZ. -- -===> WARP-Design <===- Création de Sites Web et Logiciels pour tous. -==== http://nogfx.free.fr/warpdesign ====- |

Hello! I noticed it's impossible to add more than one command for one keys combination in Ambient prefs/Keyboard settings. If I'm trying to put more than one command, only the first one survives. Maybe it could be useful if thumbnailing was made global option (use thumbnail always, use thumbnail only if no associated icon, no thumbnails). This would reduce cycle gadget to simple switch. "Show All Files" is still needed for iconview... Another option could be making three much smaller buttons which only switch state. One small toggle button (maybe some nice imagery?) for icons/listview, another toggle button for thumbnails and finally another one for "show all files" functionality. Cycle gadgets are clumcy but we coders love them because they are so easy to implement ;) Ilkka |

So I won't write any bug related posts here until I read once more all bugtacker contents. I promise. ;) Kind regards -- Slawek "Kamul" Kaminski There are 10 groups of people: people who knows, and people who doesn't know a binary system. |

Hello! On 10.07.07 you wrote: > No, It's more than annoying :). And you can't change your mind > while dragging the files (you can't press ALT after dragging > files, neither you can't release it). So maybe it should be added to a bugtracker? Isn't it possible to simply check if alt is pressed exactly in momemnt when the dragged file(s) are droped to destination lister? Sorry for the delay, but I had a problem with my e-mail account. Kind regards -- Slawek "Kamul" Kaminski There are 10 groups of people: people who knows, and people who doesn't know a binary system. |

Hello! On 11.07.07 you wrote: > Please note that the H flag which you can set with protect command > doesn't stand for "hidden", but "hold". There is no such thing as > hidden files concept in AmigaDOS. That's quite possible. But there's really a nice chaos about this bit. In AmigaOS 2.0 mannual it's even not mentioned about H bit. But in DosMan guide (can be founded on Aminet) H is described as hidden attribute. Also DOpus treats H like hidden attribute. I'm just wondering: what "hold" attribute could be used for? > In Ambient/ Workbench icon-less > files are usually hidden. I personally used hidding files only for a few specific cases. For example I have hidden T, Clipboards etc. in Ram_Disk:. I often use ram disk for testing some programs or for temporary downloaded files. It makes less chaos in ram disk in such a case, if these dirs (t, clips...) are hidden.
