O.k. Here's the real problem with the floppy drive access. The drive actually wasn't conected properly - don't know how that wire came loose! Anyway, I can now only access the floppy by using: mount /devfd0 /mnt/floppy (as root) The system claims that /mnt/auto/floppy doesn't exist. Can I attach the fstab file for you to look at? I got Morhix-Gnome on the hard disk, but the useradd seems to be failing at install time. When I reboot, I get to the login screen, and cannot login as either root or my regular userid. I know the passwords are correct. I noticed that after the installation, when I logout of the CD-based Morphix, it shows some error messages to the effect of "useradd command not found". I don't see anything on the Wiki about this. Should I be doing something after the installation completes - or is there anything I can do to overcome this issue? By the looks of it the regular user wasn't added (and possibly the root users password wasn't enabled). Was the partition large enough for the install? You could try setting the password by hitting shift at the lilo prompt and entering 'linux init=3D/bin/sh'. This should boot and give you a console right away with which would allow you to set the password manually... although I do find this a very strange issue you're having. > I don't see anything on the Wiki about this. Anyway, here's what I did: At LILO - linux init 1 at init 1 - enter for maintenance su root passwd (gave myself a new password) at GDM allowed myself to login as root added regular user (too lazy to do it in console mode :) Taa daa!!! Thanks a mil! I now have a Debian GNU/Linux system up and running! I'm sure I'll have other questions, but for now, I'm lovin' it.
