Hi - I've just downloaded / installed Morphix LightGUI 0.5-pre4 - it works very, very nice with my old Compaq Armada E500 laptop. Only trouble is, when i try to update or install new software, the links to the repositories are dead. Could someone please guide me to the proper repositories to use, please? Have fun & Merry Christmas - Kim 'The_Pirate' Denmark |

You could try replacing the repositories with the latest Debian versions: http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-faq/ch-uptodate.en.html#s-aptitude-upgrade Just make sure you backup your system, I haven't done such an upgrade from 0.5-pre4 before. cheers, Alex PS. sorry morphix-user for the spam-mail from a few days ago, I've switched the list to subscribers-only. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAksyPlQACgkQQeuQA5TF/Uv55wCfWI38toy6TT/QMHpNQcu44oPe I1IAnAwqECfL53s+fFodrh3BttgkdSrg =pOu8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Didn't work. I set the repository to: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free (as i lack the insight in Debian to find a more relevant one) and ran: aptitude update aptitude dist-upgrade Result: first the update disabled my keyboard and locked up ssh. After that it started asking questions! :) I think on font update. The only way out was to mouse-click the power-down button and attempt a restart. As a result, the system as such is still workable, but apt-get, aptitude etc is completely borked. So, if i may draw a quick conclusion: Nope. Didn't work. I strongly assume that it's a KB40 error (the source of the fault located 40 cm. behind my keyboard) - i probably selected the wrong repository. Any suggestions to a better one, please ? I'm just guessing at this point, but you might want to try using 'etch' (old-stable) instead of 'stable' in your sources.list. This might stop things breaking when upgrading, as the last official Morphix release is very old the step to the current Debian stable might be too troublesome. An alternative would be simply installing the latest Debian stable. cheers, Alex |

Sorry, too, done the same... :) > ... try using 'etch' (old-stable) instead of 'stable' in > your sources.list. ... I did a fresh install, and tried to use 'etch'. The upgrade itself worked fine - except this time it has broken some part of the 'X' system... Kernel panic / shutdown instantly! Can't even see exactly where it breaks. I guess it's time i face reality, and accept that LightGUI is a tad old... Thanks for your help. I'm really sorry that developement on this distro have slowed down - i'm notoriously out of money, my 'hottest' laptop is a P2/450 with 128Mb RAM, so this would be just right for me.
