The purpose of Morphing-Morphix is to provide a quick introduction to
start Morphing and making your own LiveCD. Just boot the CD and start
Morphing, no need to install tools, compile applications or switch
operating systems. All that is required is some space on a connected
hard drive.
In fact Morphing-Morphix was made using Morphing-Morphix, which was
made using Morphing-Morphix... the recursive LiveCD.
The following Morphs can be completed from the LiveCD.
* My First Morph - change the background
* Morphing the Boot Menu
* Morphing the Boot-up Process
* Morphing the Home Directory
* Auto-Launching Firefox
* Morphing a MainModule
* Auto-Building using mmaker
* Testing an iso using Qemu
All menu-driven, after you have used the interactive How To - a script
is available containing all the commands used in the morphing session.
In fact you can use this script to reproduce the exactly the same
results.

In short: new base, new LightGUI iso. Get the goods from http://www.morphix.org We've had a year without any new official Morphix LiveCDs. Why? There were a few reasons, namely the lack of a stable 2.6 overlay filesystem, a lot of work that has gone into build-from-scratch tools and debian packages and (probably more important) the fact that real life has really been busy for me personally (new job, new home, my BSc AI and now my MSc).=20 Although I have been working with groups like Ubuntu and UserLinux and been releasing base ISOs on a fairly regular basis the delay of any official Morphix ISOs has been embarrassing. Well, 2005 is off to a good start: I've just uploaded a new LightGUI ISO with the 0.5-pre4 base module, built from scratch using mmaker/isomaker. You can rebuild all mmaker-modules using its /morphix/mod.xml file with mmaker. This new release still is a pre-0.5 release. Its use is primarily to find any new bugs caused by the autobuilding system, new cowloop overlaying kernel module, 2.6.9 kernel, new morphixinstaller/partitionmorpher and Grub bootloader. How quick the other ISOs are updated depends on how quick I'll be able to release 0.5-pre5 (or, heaven forbid, 0.5 proper). Cowloop will probably be replaced by unionfs once the 2.6 branch of unionfs picks up speed. Anyway, have fun with the new LightGUI! For transition information see README.transition on the ISO. For info on included Morphix tools see README.tools. Changelog: 02-01-2005 (version 0.5-pre4 base + LightGUI - "Elara") base: - added 2.6.9 kernel - added slideshow at boottime, hooks in miniroot - added cowloop overlaying instead of mini_fo/translucency - updated hwdata lightgui: - using os-cillation xfce4.2 debian packages - built from scratch using mmaker >=3D 0.4-12 and Debian sid - firefox 1.0, thunderbird 0.9-6 - rebuilt Morphixinstaller, Partition morpher - including Morphix control panel, configuration tools - added latest morphing-tools metapackage happy morphing, Alex --=20 /------------------------------------------------------------------\ | Alex de Landgraaf | The cure for boredom is curiosity | | Student AI & CS, VU, A'dam | There is no cure for curiosity | | Phone: 06-16844084 | | | GPG: http://www.alextreme.org/key_alex.asc /'-'\ | | www.alextreme.org & www.morphix.org ( o o ) | \------------------------------------------oOO0--(_)--0OOo---------/ |

After a period of slacking, euh, doing important stuff in real life, I've released a new base module for the morphers among you. Size has dropped yet again, and I hope it to be better than ever (see changelog below). Keep sending those bugreports! I'm hoping to release 0.5 in a few weeks (before the first morphix-anniversary, time flies...), but as always it'll be ready when it's ready. We can use everyones help, MCP and the partitioner are coming along nicely but are still not releasable to the general public. For other issues, see the todolist on the wiki and the list of subprojects & modules that could use a hand. 0.4-1b base iso: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=71814&package_id=71562&release_id=170753 Cheers, Alex PS. I've added some 0.5 teasers to the gallery: http://morphix.sourceforge.net/modules/xoopsgallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album19 For Aquatix it'll be a familiar sight :) Changelog: http://am.xs4all.nl/phpwiki/index.php/Changelog 22-12-2003 (version 0.4-1b base) base: - updated kernel to 2.4.23-ck1, switched off preemptive and lowlatency - new alsa, cloop-1.02, translucency and nvidia lkm - fixed number of boot issues (mkpersistanthome) - updated hardwaredetection to latest knoppix version (11-19) - added username= bootoption, however this requires a different init.sh in mainmod to work well (user is set up, but need to startx as user too) - silenced the setting of /proc/splash - added MDDLICENSE to iso - added morphix-acpi bootlabel, for booting with acpi on (duh) /'-'\ ( o o ) ------------oOO0--(_)--0OOo------------ Wouter Alexander de Landgraaf Student AI & CS VU Amsterdam Phone: 06-16844084 GPG: http://am.xs4all.nl/key_alex.asc WWW: www.alextreme.org & www.morphix.org .oooO ( ) Oooo. --------------\ (----( )-------------- \_) ) / (_/ |

Hey all, New LightGUI, KDE and Gnome combined iso's have been uploaded, Game is on it's way. What are the biggest changes? Well, after the recent poll I've renamed Morphix HeavyGUI to Morphix Gnome, and it has Gnome 2.4 together with a host of updates. Gnome and KDE themes have been changed, improved installer, LUFS has been added, the list goes on and on. Also, I've made an OOo minimodule people could use together with mainmodules without it. Partitionmorpher, IsomorphGUI and MCP havn't been included yet, but hoping to have some packages for users to play with soon. If you can't wait hit the CVS, do backup your data if you want to play around with PM. Also, with the announcement of an Arabic version, the rise of Hindi IndLinux's popularity and releases of Aquamorph and others, I've opened a forum on Community Morph's for questions people might have. As I don't know much about them and some don't have their own forum's or mailinglists yet, this might be a good temprorary solution for aspiring morphers. Anyway, read more for the changelog. We havn't been slacking these last 2 months Want to jump to the downloads straight away? LightGUI: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/morphix/MorphixCombined-LightGUI-0.4-1.iso?download Gnome: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/morphix/MorphixCombined-Gnome-0.4-1.iso?download KDE: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/morphix/MorphixCombined-KDE-0.4-1.iso?download Will upload minimodules and the other mainmodules shortly Changes since 0.4-0 base: - fixed problem with some pc's not able to boot - added a new 2.4.21-xfs kernel, 2.4.22 seems to be having some problems - added cloop 1.02, all modules now use new format (see README.conversion, also for new loadmod.sh for 0.4-0c users) - with the new cloop, more than 4 minimodules can be used together - added toram/tohd/fromhd options - morph user created on the fly, passwd/shadow/group of mainmodule used, fixes gdm-problems and countless others - locale.gen no longer copied from base - new nvidia drivers used with xmodule=nvidia bootoption (4496) - added /deb, /exec and /copy dirs (these replace the deb-morph,exec-morph and tgz-morph minimodules, see README.cdrom for details) - added LUFS (mounting of ssh/ftp like a normal filesystem). Together with the previous point, I'm sure people can find numerous interesting uses :) - kernel has ntfs, v4l2, acpi patches. latter is only activated with acpi=on - quite a few differences between Knoppix resolved - memtest86 added to boot.img, start with memtest bootlabel - new bootoptions (F2) screen, with a larger subsection of bootoptions. And our favorite mascotte, naturally - added autorun+index.html - the use of supermount instead of autofs - fixed problem of FAT/NTFS mounting - added apt-pinning in /etc/apt/preferences. When upgrading, new packages are only used from Debian Sarge (testing) instead of Sid when they are newer than the current packages. Should make installed Morphix/Debian less likely to break when upgrading... main: - all mainmodules updated to Morphix sid of 21/09/03 - Morphix HeavyGUI has been renamed to Morphix-Gnome - Morphix-Gnome has been updated to use Gnome 2.4. Do note that Mozilla is the main browser, not Galeon or Epiphany. Won't favour one over the other, so save your breath - Morphix-KDE has been updated to 3.1.3 - improved installer added, with commandline options, extra commandline UI and preliminary auto-install possibilities with pre-partitioned drive (partitionmorpher hasn't been included, yet) - networkconf now also works for wlan-devices and lets you set WEP-thingies. Seems to work pretty well - mkpersistanthome has been fixed (hopefully) - added different desktopicon's for Gnome & KDE. Put Morphix-specifics in Gnome-application submenu instead of drawer (great desktop, but the one who thought up the current way of menu-customizationing should wake up and do something about it imo) - Light, KDE have had their entries fixed, all modules cleaned up - added number of extra games to Morphix-Game (have to look them up) - added list of ad-servers to block in Firebird and Mozilla - changed default mousecursors to RH's black shadow. Was thinking about using the infamous Tux Cursors, but could just barely stop myself (http://kdelook.org/content/show.php?content=5359) - Morphix-Gnome, Morphix-KDE now have different themes (Keramik was getting a bit old) mini: - Openoffice.org minimodule made, Morphix-Gnome has OOo builtin though - wine-minimodule added to Morphix-Gnome and Morphix-KDE combined isos - updated all minimodules, use slightly better way for OTF-configuration, and now use more recent Debian sid packages. Still no good integration with Debian proper, WIP. - deb-morph, exec-morph and tgz-morph removed, redundant with new base module Cheers, Alex |

Hey Morphers! Well, even though these lists are relativly quiet, for the people that havn't yet read the news yet: Morphix 0.4 is online! For details, check the newspost: http://morphix.sourceforge.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=26 There were some problems with lilo, so I've had to re-release the iso's, but besides that it has some issues fixed and a few new issues have sprung up. All in all, a nice update and an improvement nonetheless :) Cheers, Alex /'-'\ ( o o ) ------------oOO0--(_)--0OOo------------ Wouter Alexander de Landgraaf Student AI & CS VU Amsterdam Phone: 06-16844084 GPG: http://am.xs4all.nl/key_alex.asc WWW: www.alextreme.org & www.morphix.org .oooO ( ) Oooo. --------------\ (----( )-------------- \_) ) / (_/ |

Hey everyone! (copied from newspost on morphix.org) Well, it took quite an effort to get it all online, but 0.3-6 is available now! (and 0.3-5 has been torn down before sf.net complains). This upload has thus been the second upload to sourceforge's ftp servers. Hoping to get upload access back for dl.xs4all.nl soon, have been prodding xs4all to make my day, to no avail yet... https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=71814 For the changes, there are many, read the changelog below. Now quite a few people have been asking me why we not move on to 0.4, but the roadmap states that we need a servermodule (logo hasn't yet been added to background and bootscreen, anyone up for some gimping?). As I always follow my own guidelines *cough* i guess we can try to get this done before the next release, which will then be 0.4. Then again, reaching 0.3-99 might be fun too Anyway, have fun and let em bugreports roll on in (btw, first reports indicate i blew it for Promise-users, fix pending, thinking about a new way of releasing, starting with 0.4...) changelog: 16-05-2003 (version 0.3-6) base: - partitionscanning fixed - new kernel, 2.4.21-rc2-xfs (patch seems to think it's rc1 though), incl. prism2 lkm - cardmgr executed in main - fixed DNS bug (resolv.conf wasn't copied correctly) - boot.img is now 1440kb, smaller kernel. Removed number of framebuffer options, ext3 has been compiled in. all mainmods: - installer now can install to multiple partitions, install bug fixed - a slight chance booting from scsi partitions works... - new Xcursor + config tool in gtkxrandr, might cause some flaming but i think it's purty :) - XF86Config-4 modifying in gtkxrandr - new Gaim - added Vera fonts - updated to latest sid (May 15) - added hsync-bootoption light: - xfce4 instead of icwm, large number of interface changes - new gtk2 theme heavy: - new gtk2 theme kde & game: - besides the above not a whole lot of changes, game still uses icewm for now And like usual all the stuff i forgot and are gonna cause a load of bugreports Cheers, Alex /'-'\ ( o o ) ------------oOO0--(_)--0OOo------------ Wouter Alexander de Landgraaf Student AI & CS VU Amsterdam Phone: 06-16844084 GPG: http://am.xs4all.nl/key_alex.asc WWW: http://www.alextreme.org .oooO ( ) Oooo. --------------\ (----( )-------------- \_) ) / (_/ |

It took some time, but i've finally uploaded the iso's to sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=71814 Most important changes: X resolution fixed, bootoptions honored, preliminary alsa support, nvidia install, scsi install (still a work in progress). Changelog follows, have fun! Uploads to the primary mirror will follow this week, using sf.net as temporary storage. Cheers, Alex --- 23-04-2003 (version 0.3-5 base, all mainmodules) "The slightly-less-borked release" Focus was on fixing a number of annoying bugs, no serious features have been added base: - X resolution bug turned back. Nice try, no cigar - added nvidia devicenodes, should fix installing with nvidia cards. Also fixed the /dev/zero problem, thanks Luuk! - translucency slightly updated, dpkg'ing debian packages works on-the-fly - preliminary alsa support added, "morphix alsa" and "morphix alsa=alsa-module" bootoptions. Needs testing & debugging all mainmods: - new installer, fixes critical bug, installing with scsi drives will work, however having a scsi drive as root won't work as of yet. - gaim plugin's loaded on default light: - added dillo kde: - added K3B - modified the iconset... again :) heavy: - new gtk2 theme game: - pingus 0.6! And a lot of stuff I forgot... /'-'\ ( o o ) ------------oOO0--(_)--0OOo------------ Wouter Alexander de Landgraaf Student AI & CS VU Amsterdam Phone: 06-16844084 GPG: http://am.xs4all.nl/key_alex.asc WWW: http://www.alextreme.org .oooO ( ) Oooo. --------------\ (----( )-------------- \_) ) / (_/ |
