#234 Morphix lite GUI HD install
Computer is an old Hitachi Visionbook plus laptop with a
1Gb hard drive and 80Mb RAM. Morphix 0.4.1 runs
successfully in ram off the cd, (with the only boot
parameter selected fb800x600). Xserver runs and Window
Manager and Desktop works.
However after a HD install and reboot there is no GUI.
The Xserver does not seem to start.
Bash# startx .. gives a blank screen for a few seconds
then results in the following message:
(==) using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4"
Then several lines skipping various /modules/libGLcore.a
files
(EE) open /dev/fb0: no such device
(EE) no screens found
X10 fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on
Xserver ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processes) with
0 events remaining
A message asking for the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"
Which I examined and it doesn't seem to report any
failures except for the (EE)'s noted above.
This is what I have done:
#mknod /dev/fb0 b 2 0
I have opened XF86Config-4 and edited the "Monitor"
section so that all modlines except 800x600 are
commented out... then I rebooted.
Reboot results in the same failure with the same error:
(EE) open /dev/fb0: no such device
(EE) no screens found
My question: anyone able to help? Anyone know why the
Xserver works when running in ram from the CD but not
from the HD after install? Any suggestions?
