In my (little) experience, the switch from CentOS to Alma/Rocky works fine, I 
did a couple of tests because I was intrigued (I didn't have any CentOS 8 
production machine at the time).

It's basically changing where the mirrors point and doing dnf update/distro-
sync.

That depends on your MFS configs and your partitioning setup.

If you didn't modify MFS configs you should backup /etc/mfs and /var/lib/mfs 
and probably /etc/fstab (I would backup the entire /etc directory just in 
case).

If you have /var/lib/mfs in a separate disk/partition you don't need a backup, 
as you can skip formatting it during reinstall, but it is a good practice 
nonetheless.
