If a chunkserver is down the master server would inform you (the admin) -
for sure in the CGI Monitor or maybe by email. It is not yet implemented so
it is difficult to tell exactly what options would be available.

Now it is clear that the idea using DHCP is a bad idea.

But it is not completely clear what is "chunkserver awareness".

At this moment it is possible to assign (any) IP address to chunk server via
DHCP.

But we think about introducing "chunkserver awareness" so that the master
server remembers which chunkservers got connected to it and in case any of
them gets disconnected, the master server would inform about it. 
Then, we would need to know IP addresses of the chunkservers and the IP
addresses should not be changed when chunkserver is restarted. In such a
case you could configure DHCP that it gives the same IP address to the
machine based on its MAC address.

at next boot gets a different address ?
