Hi!

Yes, you can safely remove this line. It is an artefact from an even earlier
MooseFS version. The problem you described exists also on reiserfs and jfs,
it doesn't affect ext2/ext3/ext4.

I'm using 1.5.12 and I want to put the chunk on XFS. It seems that the 
chunk disregards all files after restart. We tracked the issue to

#define HAVE_STRUCT_DIRENT_D_TYPE 1

and removed that line. Afterwards it seems to work ok.

Considering that an upgrade to 1.6 is not possible right now could you 
please advice on the possible issues coming from removing the line above 
in conf? From what I saw that define was used just once, in reading the 
folder contents.
