A Korean translater, yogiber AT Moodle, want to be an official member of = translation team. I am already a member of Korean translation team(Co-ord= inator: Tim Allen). We, Korean Moodlers will open the 2nd Moodle Workshop on 23th August 2006. Before the workshop, we want to upgrade our language packs. Hi, I've just moved all the date formatting strings out to the language packs, which means you now have control over the date format shown on course formats, postings, logs etc ... The new strings all start with "strftime" and are in moodle.php I've just edited all currrent languages in CVS to add these new strings, so please do a "cvs update" on your copies, or download the latest from http://moodle.com/download/lang All European languages have now been changed to 24 hr time, because AM and PM were not being displayed correctly on some machines. You might want to check these strings to see if there is a more natural way to format these dates in your language. Documentation about the different codes is here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.strftime.php Be careful, because certain codes (eg %e) don't display at all on some machines (like Windows). Note that the % characters need to be doubled in the files. eg %d is represented using %%d. If you use the very latest language editor (admin/lang.php) then you shouldn't even notice this ... the strings should look normal and you can edit them normally (the doubling is done automatically). Just some info about the upcoming release of 1.0.8: Later today I'm going to release 1.0.8 beta so that we can hopefully get some heavy testing done over the next few days. If you find any little bugs or strange behaviour then please post them to bugs.moodle.com and I'll fix them ASAP. If all goes well then I hope to release 1.0.8 final early next week (ie 1pm GMT Monday). If you're maintaining a language and you have some new stuff then you probably want to make sure you send it in by Monday. Cheers! Hi! I've finally sorted out a system to allow you to translate the Moodle documentation (if you want to!) The latest CVS has it all. Basically, the html files are in the lang/xx/docs directory, and there is now only a little bit of PHP left in moodle/doc that will call the appropriate documentation files. I highly recommend that you don't check in a whole lot of English documents into your language pack, because these are always being updated. Instead, just check in finished documents as you do them (the English one will automatically be used if a particular file can't be found in your language) I've included a suggested order that highlights the most important files (eg install.html), in lang/en/README.txt Cheers! OK, the big changes of the past few days are over, and Moodle seems to be relatively stable again and it should stay that way. And it now installs smoothly on PostgreSQL! I'm still going through and testing all the modules for little bugs I've not found yet, then continuing work on the other new features for Moodle 1.0.8. If you've got Moodle on a non-production server then I'd really appreciate it if you get the latest CVS and let me know (directly via email) of any bugs you notice. Cheers! Starting from later today and over the next few days (perhaps a week depending on Christmas etc) the CVS archive will probably become quite unstable (ie buggy), because of a number of large changes that are happening (with database stuff etc). I would recommend NOT using CVS code to run production servers for a while. If you want to run a test server and help us test out the new changes then please do, that would really help! This makes a lot more sense in the context it appears in
(next to forum posts, but now in a lot of other places
such as journal editing, assignment editing etc)
So you may want to update your language to match.
I'm also going to be changing help/questions.html in
the near future to be more helpful than the giant list
it is now.
1.0.8 will probably be just before Christmas.

Hi, OK, I've implemented a scheme to allow the language packs to set the locale. As a result, when the user changes their language then all the dates, numbers etc will change to suit the language. This new code will be in the next release (I'm now calling it 1.0.7) .. It's only a few lines in lib/setup.php I've set default locale codes for all current language packs as a string called 'locale' in moodle.php: ar/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "ar"; ca/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "ca_ES"; de/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "de_DE"; en/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "en_GB"; en_us/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "en_US"; es_es/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "es_ES"; es_mx/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "es_MX"; fi/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "fi_FI"; fr/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "fr_FR"; id/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "id_ID"; it/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "it_IT"; ja/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "ja_JP"; no/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "no_NO"; pt_br/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "pt_BR"; zh_cn/moodle.php:$string['locale'] = "zh_CN"; (So be aware of the changed file if you're using CVS) These are fairly generic codes that should work on most Unix, Linux and Windows machines, most of the time. The admin can still set the locale code for the main site language if they want to (or they have a funny machine that uses different locale codes). If the user language is the same as the site language, then this admin locale will be used for the user (ie it OVERRIDES the language-pack locale). Since 99% of installations are single-language this should work quite well for any server. Leaving the admin locale blank will make Moodle choose the locale from the current site language file. Just a note to say that 1.0.6.5 is under way. Not too much new stuff will be in it, I'm basically just polishing rough edges in the interface and fixing any other little bugs as I find them. I'm expecting to release it in about a week or so, possibly Monday 9th December. So if you are doing any work on languages, that may be a convenient target date to reach any goals you have.
