I am in the process of moving an existing installation of nagios 3.2.1 with Centreon to nagios 3.5.0 with Monarch 2.5.0. The old nagios installation had it's config files kind of jacked up due to a handful of admins working with it over the years, but I finally for everything tidied up to the point that I can load the config files and do a pre-flight test with no errors and no warnings. I can also commit with apparently no issues, but after printing out the results of the "nagios -v nagios.cfg" and showing 0 warning and 0 errors, but still reports an error. Specifically, the last few lines of the "commit" screen show: Total Warnings: 0 Total Errors: 0 Things look okay - no serious problems were detected during the pre-flight check. Running configuration check... CONFIG ERROR! Restart aborted. Check your Nagios configuration. So, what would seem to be the problem here? I'll dig in to the source code and see if I can figure it out for myself, but if someone else has seen this before I'd appreciate a pointer. Also, a minor issue. In the "nagios main configuration" screen I still see lines for aggregate_status_updates, downtime_file, and comment_file variables. These are no longer needed in nagios 3.5.0 (the preflight check indicates that all status file updates are now aggregated, and downtime entries and comments are now stored in the status and retention files. |

Hi All Does Monarch log any details of changes to the NAGIOS configuration, for example, any of the below: - time of change - configuration item changed I'm currently looking through the monarch database but cannot find any table that might serve as a change log of sorts. Thanks in Advance, T. |

I have recentlly started using Groundwork Monitor Architect to maintain an existing Nagios installation. Im using GMA 1.3 with Nagios 1.2. Once i started using GMA it converted my host extended info config file to look similar to the following. define hostextinfo { host_name va-apc-3 use Black Box 2d_coords 3515,1090 } define hostextinfo { name Black Box icon_image black_box.jpg vrml_image black_box.jpg statusmap_image black_box.gd2 register 0 } While the above format is cleaner, there is a problem I believe with using it this way (at least for me.. maybe im missing something) Previouslly I had image names for each host definition as well instead of making it grab em from the template, when I use the below method my images look good, when I use the above method my gif files etc arent showing all colors and look funky. The example I used here uses jpg but some of my definitions use gif and gd2 images that have transparency to make the map look pretty :) So the difference seems to be that all hosts have there images specified as well as what template was used. Any Ideas/suggestions to fix my issue? define hostextinfo { use Black Box host_name va-apc-3 icon_image black_box.jpg vrml_image black_box.jpg statusmap_image black_box.gd2 2d_coords 3515,1090 } define hostextinfo { name Black Box icon_image black_box.jpg vrml_image black_box.jpg statusmap_image black_box.gd2 register 0 } Don Collins Sr. Unix Administrator Orbital Sciences Corporation ----------------------------------------- Notice: This e-mail is intended solely for use of the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain information that is proprietary, privileged and exempt from disclosure under applicable law. Hi All, Just upgraded our 0.97a version of Monarch to 1.3 (which looks very nice) but have a slight problem. When trying a preflight test (or commit) it bombs out with the error: Error(s) building file(s): /usr/local/groundwork/monarch/workspace/ Is a directory Looking at what is created it seems to have managed to do all the config files except misccommands.cfg and nagios.cfg so I'm assuming that the code for creating one of these files is expecting the workspace directory to be a file. Anyone else come across this? Ian |

Hi List, I'm testing monarch to rebuild my existing nagios configuration, trying to benefit from service- and host profiles. When i assign a /service or host) profile to a single machine, all services from that profile are assigned to the host. But when i remove the profile in the host tab or the host in the profile tab, the services are not removed, even though the default values have not been modified. Is this behaviour wanted? If yes, why? IMHO this could produce database inconsisties, as all services of a profile are assigned to the host, but the profile tab doesn't display the host as a member. Regards, Marcus Fleige |

Greetings, I just upgraded from version 0.97a to 1.0, aside from several problems with the monarch-upgrade.pl script I have found an authentication issue. The new version does not like passwords that look like "foo+bar" -- i.e. have a plus character in them. The previous version did not have this issue. Using Firefox Live HTTP Headers I am seeing the following: POST /cgi-bin/monarch.cgi user_acct=super_user&password=foo%2Bbar GET /cgi-bin/monarch.cgi?update_left=1&user_acct=super_user&top_menu=hosts&user_acct=super_user&password=foo+bar GET /cgi-bin/monarch.cgi?update_main=1&user_acct=super_user&top_menu=hosts&user_acct=super_user&password=foo+bar the POST is ok, I get authenticated and the screen changes to the monarch menu layout but it immediately throws me out to the login screen. No wonder, it is not escaping the plus character in the Password. Changing the password without a plus character works just fine. That can be a work around. However, unlike the previous version, a greater concern is that the Password is part of the GET which gets logged in the Apache log file in the clear. This is very poor security. I haven't traced out why the password field is being propagated in the GETs. Lidio. |

To be perfectly frank, I don't think Monarch 1.0 is actually a 1.0 release. It's so riddled with bugs that it appears that Groundwork would like the open source community to do their debugging for them. None of the bug reports are addressed, and there's no communication from anyone in Groundwork.=20 I'd like access to the CVS/SVN repository so that updates can be applied to the tree. If Groundwork can't give that, then I'll load it into my own repository and make that available to the community. Hi there,=20 i've got some trouble with the pre-flight check and commit. after some debugging i found that the "Misccommands" are spellt differntly: monarc_setup.pl line 1225: 'miscommands' =3D> 'miscommands.cfg', MonarchFile.pm line 192: my @types =3D \ ('commands','misccommands','time_periods','contact_templates','contactgroup= s','contacts', in version 0.96? the MonarchFile.pm spellt "miscommands" and not "misccommands" (2 c)=20 maybe some of the developers thinks this information is useful ;) --=20 "In god we trust, the Rest we Monitor" Sebastian Schubert - RHCE Stadtsparkasse Munich Network and IT Security -------------------------- ba...@ss... Hi, I'm using Nagios 1.3 and Monarch 0.97a, and I'm getting frustrated with a minor problem. When I clone a host, I still have to go into each service for that host and specify a contact group, it doesn't seem to be carried forward from the host I'm cloning. Is this an issue with my templates or something that should be done within Monarch ? Any thoughts ?
