I am very new to linux but I am drawn to this distro for my first experiment, writing a text file to usb drive for later bringing back to a windows machine. I have tried several tutorials without much luck. Could you lay out a step by step guide or give some insight into this puzzle?

Let's start with few basic steps then, please excuse me if I place down too simple questions.
Is it your USB device correctly mounted in your linux system ? what does the "df" command says when you run it from a console ?
