Remember when you had to spend lots of time troubleshooting people's .bashrc/.cshrc initialization files?
PATH pointing to the Intel compiler, LD_LIBRARY_PATH to a mix of libraries compiled with PGI and Gnu,
MANPATH pointing to nothing?

Environment Modules took us from the tangled, rigid, confusing, self-conflicting, wrong, unstable initialization files,
to a user-friendly, flexible, clean, consistent, correct, stable software environment.
That is no small achievement.
Modules is the single most effective tool available to system administrators and
computer users alike.

Yes, incredible.  I started using Modules 20+ years ago.  And even though I am using only the very basic functions I would not know how to deploy our software stack w/o Modules.
