I know I shouldn't but for now I'm doing it anyway till an alternative
comes around.

Well all it takes is just adding a set of default paths, i suggest using
$build->{properties}{install_sets}{application} (please do include etc-,
$share-, and doc-dirs). Of course these defaults should be OS dependent.
