No luck reproducing this yet. I've tried manually and by setting up a 
minimal smoke config which should have been enough looking at the other 
reports. I'll try again running a full smoke.

Attached is a patch which /may/ eliminate the noise and help localize 
the problem, but until I can reproduce it, I'm shooting in the dark.
