We have a client who is using our software and receiving the following error.
This error happens on occassion but tends to happen throughout the day and
early morning. In the morning the system is sluggish and it takes a
significant amount of time for them to log in. They will go to the login page
and receive the following error:
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /Software/Report/View.aspx?
Reason: Error reading from remote server
I'm aware that the error is indicating that the reverse proxy is attempting to
receive a response from the web server and it is unable to do so. The web
server is not under any sort of pressure. The servers are not being taxed and
there is a minimum of users inside the system. The web server is spec'd out
to handle around 200-300 users and is not receiving usage anywhere near that.
The system consists of a web server and a SQL server. The web server is
Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL is SQL 2008. The client is utilizing a Mod
Security appliance from Breach. They are using apache setup as a reverse
I would like to try and reproduce this error in a test environment. However,
they are no longer selling the Mod Security appliance. Any assistance to try
and reproduce the error or to understand what is causing this to happen is
