This usually happens when the apache user does not have the right perms on one of the parent dirs. Start at the top level dir and check all perms down to the one where you want to write the audit logs.

i get the following error in my apache error.log
Why the Audit Log can not write to /var/log/apache2/modsecurity/ ???
I set the Permissions to 777
chmod -R 777 /var/log/apache2/modsecurity
but the failure always:
