I emphatically second that!

Mod-security is a crucial defense for my servers. It's one of the first 
packages that I install on a new server.

In addition to the standard usage on my servers, it's a critical spam 
fighting tool on my weblog server. I use mod_security along with some 
custom scripts to report spammers to the dns blacklists.
