  I've been contacted directly by several folks with the same issue 
looking to see if I solved it, so here's a quick update for this thread 
for others that are seeing similar issues.   Still no luck on this.   
But....  If I build everything using the FreeBSD ports system, then 
everything works fine.   Guess I'll stick with that for now.
