This is just a reminder message that we will have a mod-pubsub meeting tomorrow. Meet at CommerceNet at 6pm; we might go to dinner from there or have something brought in depending on number of attendees. Hi all I am still having problems configuring this with WinXP and Apache2, can get python server running straight out of the box, and have fixed all the errors being thrown in the apache error_log, unfortunately when I try to connect to the pubsub_test.cgi my browser just seems to spin its heels. A mass of folders get created in kn_events but the browser never displays a page, have tried IE6, IE5.5, Netscape 7.1 and Konqueror from my Linux box but no avail. error_log is empty and access_log shows connection is established. Cheers for any help Phill _________________________________________________________________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free. Get MSN Messenger today! http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger |

Hi all I am new to both mod_perl and mod_pubsub and am having trouble configuring my mod_pubsub to run as per the instructions in the install docs. I have confirmed mod-perl is running fine by running several .pl files to get server environment details. My problem is as soon as I move to run the testperl.cgi in cgi-bin I record the following error: [Tue Sep 14 13:31:32 2004] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] failed to resolve handler `Apache::Registry': Can't locate Apache/Registry.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /Progra~1/Apache~1/Apache2/htdocs/mod_pubsub/cgi-bin C:/Perl/site/lib/Apache2 C:/Perl/lib C:/Perl/site/lib . C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/ C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/lib/perl) at (eval 16) line 3.\n Yet I am never calling Apache::Registry in http.conf, I use ModPerl::Registry as am running Apache 2. My setup is currently WinXP Pro SP1, Apache 2.050, Mod_perl 1.99_16 ActivePerl 5.8.4 and also have PHP 5.0 installed. Am quite new to all this but followed install instructions to the letter. I'm not so sure they are so different - I believe there is a single, simple concept that describes both. The meanings are different, as you say, but the interaction & message format don't necessarily have to be very different. I've done a lot of thinking on this subject - see http://korrespondence.blogspot.com/2004/08/blogs-pubsub-and-web-collections.html I've got to head out to a soccer game in Kirkland, I'll try to write more later. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Barr" <je...@ve...> To: "Asynch Messaging" <asy...@ho...>; <mod...@li...> Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2004 7:55 AM Subject: Re: [Mod-pubsub-developer] Syndication Scalability and mod-pubsub > It is a different form of ping. It is a different form of ping. The type of ping that Syndic8, ping-o-matic, and others catch has the meaning "item changed." The ping described in the document you reference has the meaning "calling and called item are related." There is no good single place to go to find info about the first type. I may write that if necessary. This is interesting... http://www.blabble.com/works.htm Blabble is dedicated to making sense out of the seemingly endless supply of blog information. We feel there is tremendous power in understanding the thoughts and opinions of influential blog authors. To accomplish this, Blabble parses thousands of recently-changed blogs every few minutes and breaks the text into parts of speech. Our natural language software links those parts allowing us to group and analyze intended thoughts. None of our competitors come close to matching our language processing. Blabble makes available: a.. Instance Counting. How many people talked about a particular product, person, or service today? Did it spike around a certain event? a.. Tone. Were people happy/sad when they talked about your product? What words are people using when talking about a particular person? a.. Surveys. Create simple survey comparisons of key words. How do people use key terms in relation to each other. Blabble technology is a mixture of several computer science disciplines including natural language processing, a subsection of artificial intelligence. Hey Mike, I think Someone who uses a Windows box did the build incorrectly. You can strip out the line feeds with Perl, I think. Unfortunately, none of our CGI apps are working right now on the server because Ben asked me to recompile Apache/PHP and that required some kind of upgrade that broke mod-perl. We're blocked on that. I've hooked up SearchAlert to the KnowNews app in mod-pubsub. The SearchAlert notifies users of new search results and can post either email or a Web notification. I set up a subscription to post results of "American Presidental Election" to mod-pubsub: http://www.mod-pubsub.org/kn_apps/knownews/?/topiczero.com/politics/2004/ape |

I was thinking... The mod-pubsub servers support returning several formats (js, flash, plain text). How about adding Atom as a format? Think about a URI like the following: http://www.mod-pubsub.org:9000/kn/topiczero.com/news/?do_max_age=3600&kn_response_format=atom This would provide a feed in Atom format of events from the previous hour. |

I'm trying to send a list of links to a mod-pubsub client application - the knownews app. It appears that the server is stripping out data that appears to be HTML (or at least anchors). Is this true? I'd also like to send XML via mod-pubsub (like an Atom entry or feed) - is this possible, or does the server only accept content-type of application/www-form-urlencoded ? |

Hi Rand, Silly questions, but... The VB pubsub test program uses http://localhost:8000/kn as its server. You will need to change the path to /what/chat. It is currently set to /what/knchat/messages, which is wrong. Also, in the test program, you will need to click on subscribe first before you will see the messages. Make sure you do that. There are 5 master project files, one for each version of Visual Studio: /mod_pubsub/cxx_pubsub/LibKN/VC6/VC6.dsw (Visual Studio 6) /mod_pubsub/cxx_pubsub/LibKN/VC7/VC7.sln (Visual Studio.NET 2002) /mod_pubsub/cxx_pubsub/LibKN/VC71/VC71.sln (Visual Studio.NET 2003) /mod_pubsub/cxx_pubsub/LibKN/EVC3.2k/EVC3.vcw (Embedded Visual Studio Pocket PC 2000) /mod_pubsub/cxx_pubsub/LibKN/EVC3/EVC3.vcw (Embedded Visual Studio Pocket PC 2002) Whichever you load, build LibKNCPP and LibKNCom. The most important breakpoint I would set is in the file /mod_pubsub/cxx_pubsub/LibKN/cpp/Connector.cpp. Look on line 218, which is the Connector::Subscribe call. Follow this to find out where the problem is coming from. Tommy -----Original Message----- From: ra...@ex...
