MMM v 2.94 b13 works very well with all my POP3 emails
except gmail. My PC operating system is Win XP Home,
with SP2. I have installed freePOPs, enabled my gmail
for POP3, and set up OE6 to take gmail (which it does).
I have set up mailboxes to take the gmail accounts as
described in MMM (either from OE6 or from "empty"). I
set Host to "localhost", the POP3 Server port to 2000
and check the "No RETR" box.
The problem is that the mailbox checks for gmails
correctly for a few
hours, but then suddenly becomes disabled. We have two
gmail accounts, and have set up two mailboxes for them,
and they both fail in this way, but not simultaneously.
I do not know what causes the change, but on one
occasion it occurred just after the Gmail Notifier icon
(on the on the taskbar) indicated an error.
Examination of the disabled gmail mailbox properties
shows a change in the UIDL Support setting (on the
Server tab). When a new gmailbox is created the UIDL
Support setting is initially "unknown", but after the
first checking for gmail it changes to "yes". This
setting persists while gmail checking is performing
successfully, but when it fails the UIDL Support
setting is found to have changed to "no". There is no
direct control of the UIDL Support setting on the
Properties Server page; so I delete the faulty mailbox
and open a new one. I do this about three or four
times each day
I shall be grateful for any advice.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS:
Changing Poll settings of all mailboxes to different prime
numbers (to avoid simultaneous checks) reduced the incidence
of failures to less than one per day. After eleven days of
this, however, my gmailboxes suddenly ceased to check for
mail altogether. Status is given as "error: unknown error,
please fix"; and this appears in the log immediately after
the password check. Upgrading FreePOPs from 0.0.97 to 0.0.98
made no difference. KEN69
