 I think Debian package applies a patch to change the default value of
"type_engine" option from "xcore" to "xft", so I wonder if the patch
causes this problem.

 It is maybe possible to avoid this problem by removing (or renaming)
/usr/lib/mlterm/libtype_xft.so file. If /usr/lib/mlterm/libtype_xft.so
is not found, mlterm uses xcore fonts forcibly.
