In a regular xterm it displays the accent alone, in a Unicode xterm
some accents aren't displayed alone since several accents can be
input to the same character.

This made no difference. Btw, I just noticed that some dead accents are
"alive" even with these settings, ie. greve, circumflex and tilde, while
the acute accent and diaresis are seemingly dead while not actually
working at all as reported earlier. So I don't know if it is
half-working after all.
